To really get an idea of just how far cars have come in recent years, you'd have to take a look at some statistics that compare now and then.

And, thanks to a tip from our friends at The Truth About Cars, we get a nice look at a Consumer Reports comparison that pits the 1970 Mustang Boss 302, which CR bought way back when, against the new 2011 V6.

Not only does the 2011 V6 'Stang provide a whooping in the acceleration department but it is also scoring some serious numbers in terms of MPG.

Granted, TTAC is quick to point out the Boss still had it licked when it comes to $.

At the end of the day, which is the more prized possession?
The '70 Boss 302 with its old-school mechanics or the modern day muscle car, a V6 2011 Mustang?


The 1970 Mustang Boss 302 is a legend. Created specifically to compete against the Camaro z-28 in the Trans Am championship, the Boss 302 is a much rarer pony than its nemesis. Only 1628 were built in 1969 and 7013 in 1970. Its claim to fame was the unique pairing of the Windsor 302 block with the biggest Cleveland heads possible, rated (conservatively) at 290 hp. Somewhat surprisingly, CR bought and tested one in 1970. And since they just finished comparing the 2011 Mustang V6 against the Camaro, CR pitted the stats of the two against each other. Let’s just say that the forty years have brought some progress...
