One of BMW's primary sellers is the X5 sport-utility vehicle.

It feels like only yesterday that the first generation vehicle debuted. And while the second-gen auto has been a very impressive product, the third-gen vehicle will likely be a vast improvement. That's because it will benefit from the latest thinking at BMW.

We expect it to shed weight, have a greater focus on efficiency and have a much improved interior. These are all key areas that BMW's been working on in every niche. Since the X5 is one of its biggest sellers, we expect it to follow that path. 

What's more, there's newfound speculation that the X5 will grow in size, significantly. Personally, I don't think that's the case because if you look at the latest spy photos its proportions are very similar to the current, second-gen X5.

We'll be on the look out for emerging spy shots and information until its long-awaited Frankfurt Motor Show debut. Until then, check out our cover image, which is said to be a "leaked" image of the third-gen X5.


New BMW X5

The first pictures of the all-new BMW X5 reveal a familiar profile but a mixture of design cues borrowed from BMW’s current and future models.

The more rounded front end, featuring headlights that flow in to the double kidney grille, is a feature of the new 3 Series, while the shapely air vents either side of the bumper are borrowed from the 4 Series Coupe. The rear lights look like scaled up versions of the units found on the X3...
