NEW: VW CONCEPT
In hopes that VW's manufacturing numbers surpass those of Toyota, VW will be releasing a new convertible, majorly based on the Audi R8, at the North American International Auto Show in 2008. The new roadster is dubbed the Rayra(pronounced: RAY-RAH). The coupe not only looks like a R8, it shares the same engine components also. It will have a 420hp 6 speed and 4.2 L Displacement. The maximum output is 420 hp @ 7,800 rpm. The feul consumption is about 15 City/20 Highway.
New Features include Advanced anti-theft vehicle alarm system. A Theft deterrent light in driver's door and an immobilizer prevents engine start when key with automatically changing electronic code feature is not used. A speed warning device that warns you if you are driving to fast.
The Rayra will probably be on showroom floors early 2009. A V10 TDI Diesel engine and a tiptronic will be availible most likley the following year.

You're not going to surpass volume sold with an expensive car like that. VW Needs a sub compact that will sell sell sell if they want to reach Toyota's sales figures. Is it just me or is this another Phaeton disaster?

That is an old concept from 2004... uses current design language.... VW has other ideas to meet Toyota by making 3 sizes sedans, the hatch, and 2 smaller cars possible as well as ideas to open new plants in more cost effective markets.

Um. The Phaeton didn't sell. It was gorgeous but noone bought it. They already have Audi.

That's an old concept that was loosely based on the Porsche Boxster (i.e. mid-engine, RWD) I believe the concept had that 2.0T with rumors that it might also come with the VR6. I would've snapped that up in a heartbeat rather than the R32 I just bought.

I believe what VW really needs is to reenter the mini-van market. A serious product w/contemporary luxuries, and driver features including AWD and a hybrid diesel would, I believe, be popular to Euro drivers. Most of the parts are already in inventory with one brand or another.
I had to buy an Odyssey to approach the VAG approach to cars and have been very satisfied, but believe VAG could do it even better if they chose.
