Those of you who have been eagerly awaiting the BMW X1's U.S. debut, the wait is finally(!) over. That's because, according to reports, the X1 will be unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show.

The X1 was originally suppose to be stateside earlier, however, due to its popularity elsewhere abroad, BMW hit the brakes.

Considering the immense popularity of the X3 and X5 in the BMW line up, it's likely that the X1 will be a HUGE volume player and add plenty of sales to BMW.

At the Geneva Motorshow we learned that the X1 (in LCI facelift form) for the US market will be debuted at next month's NY International Auto Show.

It should be on sale in the US in early Fall as a xDrive28i model (with 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder N20 engine).

The X1's introduction to the US market may be laying the path for a rumored X1 M35i, which would be the first M Performance Automobile for the North American market.
