The press debut of the 2015 Audi A3 sedan on the eve of the 2013 New York Auto Show was something to behold. Said to be boasting proportions similar to the first-generation Audi A4, it seems like Audi may be onto something.

As cars have gotten bigger, more technologically laden — and thereby more expensive — it's clear that many former luxury buyers either couldn't keep up with the rising prices or simply wanted to go a more subtle route. With the debut of the all-new Audi A3 sedan, it seems to me that the four rings is looking to make some moves in a very aggressive space.

When comparing the standard A3 to the BMW 1-Series it's a complete homerun. The A3 is like a well tailored suit whereas the all-new 1-Series appears ungainly.

Now the Mercedes-Benz A-Class looks as though its trying too hard while the recently unveiled A3 sedan appears to run right down the middle. Not too boisterous nor too "edgy," a.k.a. ugly.
