New Audi A4 to debut in September

Audi is getting ready to launch the new A5 at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

But the company also working hard on its new A4 sedan which is set to debut at the IAA in Frankfurt in September, a company source said. Automotive News is reporting that the car will have a sharper front-end profile than the current model. It will use Audi’s new modular-length component platform, which premiers in the new A5 coupe. No preview sketches have been shown by Audi as of yet.

To be honest we’re not big fans of the current Audi A4 so we can’t wait to see what it’ll look like.

I love Audi and I would have bought one, but with the new grill, I almost puked when I saw it and decided against buying it. Audi/VW fix the grill. It looks like a fishmouth. A great car with a ugly body.

Audi should be replacing the A6 before the A4. A6 sales are plummeting in the US.

Will the new A4 really be a new model, or is it another redesigned front-end with everything else staying the same?

No, it will be completely new, with the A5's new MLP (modular platform).

And I disagree about the A6. It may not be selling well here, but it still has its crown as the best-selling luxury sedan in Europe. The A4 is more important to the brand- especially in the US. Audi needs something fresh in this segment.

If they can put another inch or two for the rear seat room and maybe another inch for the front seat room I will be very interested. Those of us that are 6'3" and over have a hard time in the A4.

I can't wait. This, and the A5, will start a revolution of great-handling Audi cars. This platform should work wonders. It's cost hundreds of millions of dollars to design- but it will pay off soon enough.

The current A4 is actually not a fully "new" model. It's still on the same platform as the A4 from 2002-2005. The only thing they changed was the styling and engines- platform, interior, dimensions and transmissions are all the same.

Don't forget suspension changes.

Yeah, the recent A4 update was merely an extensive facelift. That is why a completely new model is being introduced soon as a 2009 model.

However the current facelift was more than just styling and engines (although the 2.0T and 3.2 FSI are huge improvements).

The suspension was almost completely replaced. The manual gearbox was significantly improved, and dozens of new technolgy features were added (Rain/light sensor, MMI, Full screen NAV, SD card support etc).

I have a 2007 A4 S-Line quattro manual and it's an incredible machine.

Nevertheless, the next generation A4 will be a stunning vehicle with its rear-biased quattro, DSG, and evenly balanced platfrom. It'll probably surpassing competition from BMW, Benz, and the lesser Japanes brands (Lexus, Infiniti, Acura).

Oh! okay, it make sense, thank. I hope the new A4 will be more aggressive than the current gen. I wonder if they are going put at least 300 hp under the hood. This crazy, almost every vechicles in this segment is having 300+ hp or close to 300 hp.

Expect a 300hp diect-injection V6 with ValveLift to easily challenge with the rest.

However it's technology like the next-gen quattro, DSG, and megnetic ride that'll really blow away the competition.

I've seen interpretive pics of the '08 A4 in Auto Bild. If it's anything close to those this car will sell in boatloads. As Anim8or stated that it will have the DSG trans, then I will buy it immediately. I just test drove the A3 w/ DSG and s-line suspension..this little rocket will run circles around my 325i. If the new A4 is 75% as athletic as the current A3 then I'll stand in line waiting to buy it.

I'll be waiting for the next S4... it might have a 380-400hp V8, the seven-speed DSG, the new quattro system... the next S4 Avant will be my next winter car if I want to spend $60,000. If not, the 335xi coupe (if that comes out) is my first choice.

The current A4 is about 4 years old, so it cannot be replaced in 2008 as a 2009 model, but in 2009 as a 2010 model. So it´s too soon to get excited about.
