New BMW Z4 Spied Again Lapping Nurburgring
BMW has been keeping their new Z4 roadster under tight wraps with big lumpy plastic pieces to cover any hint to the car.
But recently we have seen the first of the next gen-Z4's with just tape on the Nurburgring. And even if it does not reveal all that much about the design details, these latest photos to confirm that the new SLK rival will have a metal roof.
It will be the first time BMW covers its roadster with a hard-top following in the footsteps of the BMW 3-series Convertible.

hmm... I think I like it. does anyone else but me think that the "folding hard-top" on this car looks fake, maybe to throw us off? The proportions of the roof panels look wrong to be able to fold ontop of one another (look at a 3-- they are sized perfectly for stacking).

Another stupid teaser but it makes sense at that price for the vehicle to be a retractable or folding hardtop. I had a couple of ragtops in my youth and they are not practical: I've been caught in sudden rain storms and ragtops have wind noise.

This ugly thing keeps getting in the way of the VSPEC. If you cant hang with the bigboys you shouldnt be on the track.

It looks good, especially from the A-pillar forward but still a little too dainty in the rear portions, and profile. Oh well, I'm sure my little sister would love it!

I don't know about you guys but the front end length of this car seems excessive to me. What do they plan to put in that thing - a V12?
The front end does look similar to the 1957 BMW 507 roadster which is a real classic.

Sorry guys I have to disagree. I think I may be the last guy on earth to like rag top cars. I understand the security issues and rollover issues and what not but I don't care. I have owned 3 convertibles and haven't had any issues with soft tops at all.

I'm a ragtop guy, too... I hope at least some companies buck the trend (Audi!).

I'll have to agree with Tauron. These days, and even in the mid to late 90's, the soft tops on most cars became 100 times better. I drove a SS Camaro convertable and that things was awesome. The top was nice and tight, had a layer on the inside to keep the noise out too.

I like soft tops, and they're so good now - it seems a shame to kill them just as they become amazing.

this car is actually not camoflaged. a university of vermont student apparently took a heavy dose of acid and had been watching alfred hitchcock movies for 18 hours straight, took a break and painted this bmw. true story.

I'm not a big fan of folding hard tops (klap-tops) I think they look messy.. the BMW range as it is now only has one fortunatley.

I actually don't like convertibles at all, and I'd never buy one. Aesthetically you are robbing the car of it's original roof line for one that is compromised, and the same goes for the performance. Plus, it rains alot round here.

I like the Matte Black wheels. They remind me of the wheels on the Z4 Coupe Concept from 2005.

I like the design from some angles, but I still see a car with the A pillar forward seeming disproportionately long...and a droopy, hanging Bangle curve along the lower side, that minimizes the the muscular rear and draws attention to the area below the A pillar and behind the front wheel. Until they design a car that looks as well as it performs, I'll stick with my Boxster S and MX-5 (Miata).

Looks bigger, heavier... doubt it will truly compete against the Cayman S
