New CTS Signals New Phase of Caddy's Revival
The 2008 Cadillac CTS< unveiled last week at the Detroit auto show, represents the second phase of Cadillac's renaissasnce, executives say.

The new CTS is dramatically refined from the current model in appearance, styling, and performance. The exterior is bold with dramatic lines and a large front grille. It features sculpted fenders and a wider track.

Inside, an all-new interior mimics European luxury models. Designers say they also drew inspiration for the CTS' interior from the quality of Coach luxury handbags and the style of Prada shoes. The interior uses metallic finishes, chrome accents, and sapele (dark reddish brown) wood. The instrument panel sweeps forward, giving the perception of more space and a surrounding, cockpitlike feel.

Two words (& phrases) stick out for me in this article.

"mimics" European luxury models
"perception" of more space

Then why not get the real thing? Unless of course the
"inspiration" from Coach luxury handbags and the style of Prada shoes matchs with this seasons Ipod case and fits two venti, skim, no whip, lattes.

One word sticks out for me and its "YAWN". This design looks outdated before its even released. When the competition is Lincoln or Chrysler then the age of design doesn't matter - but in order to compete with Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes, Cadillac needs more grace.

IMO, the new chrome grille which is also there on the new escalade, accounts for 50% of the beauty of the new caddys.

To me the caddy's new chrome grille is one of the most beautifull designed grilles out there.Second to only Alfa's.

Yes, yes, the Audi grille is very handsome, especially on the Toyota RAV4.

This car is gorgeous. I got to get inside of one at NAIAS and the interior is amazing (I may even go so far to say I liked it better than the Lexus IS and Infiniti G). The exterior is sexy and mechanically the powertrain selection is great. Way to get it right GM!

What is georgeous about it? From the windshield backwards the CTS is a brick with no elegance.

I disagree, I went to NAIAS yesterday and saw the CTS in person. I found that a lot of the photos online don't do the CTS justice. The car looks fantastic when you see it up close and in-person.

I really like the new design of this CTS, can't wait for the CTS-V version. I think the CTS right now is one of the best American car out there. "Too bad they had to much realiability problems".

I have a CTS, so does my sister as well as one of my associates and none of us have had any issues. In fact this car is one cheapest cars to run in its class. To run my girlfriends G35 coupe it not only guzzles gas but eats brakes and tires like crazy and cost more money to insure then a three month vacation on Fiji.

I understand that a Lexus is reliable car but thats about the extent of the excitment for me.

Cadillacs are more reliable than Lexus. Lot of room to talk for someone like Lexus with 57,000 recalls on there Lexus's.

Did you not read the King of Recall for 2006 article that was posted here in couple days ago. What about two weeks ago when some dude posted a video of the Cadillac CTS-V he had less than 10K miles I belief where it broke down on the Freeway? ...hmmmm....

Yes that CTS-V had problems and it was a lemon, but it was one car. You can't justify the overall reliability of any make or model of car by just one car that has issues. Every brand of vehicle from every manufacturer will have the occasional vehicle that will have serious flaws.

Dude..just because one jackass trashed his CTS-V doesn't mean Cadillac quality sucks, GM sucks, and or American cars sucks. Any why would you have video of it anyway? Perhaps he was anticipating it?? Sounds fishy to me.

No proof to back that up, and idoits like you that actually believe numbers made up by someone is GOLD! Where is the proof or link? < I'm talking about proof or a link from another website, then I will believe it, until then it's not credible!

paul3230, Lexus is just mad because a Caddy CTS beat his/her Lexus in a race and he lost money!

"The exterior is bold with dramatic lines and a large front grille". BMW's Chris Bangle used similarly flowery language to describe BMW's "Flame Surface styling language."

Poetic lingo aside, the common observer often sees the car for what it is. In Caddy's case, the word "origami" comes to mind -- The Japanese art of creating little sculptures from a folded piece of paper. In the Caddy and in origami we see large, flat surfaces with sharp creases. The "stealth fighter" look does not translate well to automobiles.

Ducati tried the same thing with their 999 motorcycle, defending their styling decisions vigorously from an onslaught of "but it's ugly as sin" from the press and the public. In the end, and after only a few short years, Ducati has returned to their former styling glory with more traditional, and much more eye-pleasing lines with the 1098. The world is hailing Ducati for making beautiful bikes again. Precious few are calling Cadillac or BMW "beautiful."

Thought for the day: Poets are those who muddy their waters to make them appear deep.

To me, and I don't really know why, the CTS interior may look nice, but it still looks cheap. It might be the switchgear, it could be the wood, I have no idea.

But it reminds me of hearing those "McDonald's Premium Chicken" commercials. I know they're trying, but what's premium about it?

Actually iv'e heard people touching and knocking on the interior and they are impressed. I don't think it looks cheap at all.
