New Infiniti G37 Inspires Lust At First Sight
Hit the starter button in the Infiniti G37 coupe and it's as if electricity flows through your body.

Pull the automatic transmission lever into gear and it's as if somebody substituted a precision-tuned rifle bolt for the shifting mechanism. Lean into the throttle and it's as if somebody answered your prayers.

Sweet, smooth, slick, sudden. Infiniti gets it.

Oh, sure, you murmur in Neanderthal tones. Nice for all the boy and girl racers. What about the rest of the world? You know, the folks who like a little flavor in their Jell-O, but not some muscle-bound machine that you can't drive in traffic and that sets the neighbors cluck-clucking.

Wow...this review is complete b**ls**t. I took two test drives with the new G37 and I thought is one of the worst cars I ever drove. The car is awfully cramped inside, feels really heavy, the engine is extremely noisy, the transmission and the clutch belong in a Ford truck , and I swear if I didn't know the number of horsepower this car has, I would 've thought it has less than two hundred based on the way the car pulls. Under 5000 RPM this engine is as weak as the engine in a Honda Civic. This is a pathetic piece of garbage, an under-engineered wannabe premium car that is not worth the time to test drive it. I pity anybody in America that buys cars based on this full of s**t reviews that lie people in the face. I remember reading a review not long ago in which this G37 won against the BMW 335i and even if I was in doubt that that's the truth, I could not help but wonder how good this Infiniti is. Well, now after driving it I can say one thing: anybody that says the G37 compares or even comes close to a BMW 335i deserves to be shot. Only delusional freaks(or people paid by Nissan) can say that this piece of trash G37 is comparable with a fabulous machine like the 335i.

Wow. you're on your own with that one dude. I've never heard anyone say anything but good things about the Nissan/Infiniti VQ V6 engine. It's always been a delight throughout it's rev -range. I've tried it in a variety of applications from Maxima to I35 to FX35.

I'll agree with you that the G37 topping the 335i is b.s., but i can't say it's a terrible car. My old 3.0 VQ in my 98' maxima had incredible pull from the low-end to the redline, so there's no way the new 3.7 is bad like you say it is.

I haven't driven a G37, but my experience with Nissan's V6 tells me that you are way off pal.

I think the Nissan V-6 has been on Ward's best-10 engines list longer than anything else ... certainly longer than anything else from Japan.

But "Star" knows more about engines than Ward's does.......

I'd agree with Star on the crampness on the G37, and by the way I own one. It's due to the integration of the dash with the doors, that part sticks out a bit and hits your arm. A lot has to due with your size too, I'm a big guy. As for BMW, two things kept me from this car, one I don't care for the looks, the G is an easy win both inside and out, and there's also reliability, face it I'll see a mechanic a lot less often. The other car I considered was the Audi A5, very sharp car, but the features on the G were better, although I did like the command controls near the arm rest very handy. The Nav and audio system on the G is great, full ipod integration, music box. Inteligent cruise control are very cool features. If there was one thing I'd like to change it would be to make it less stiff. I'm not a track driver, just wanted a nice looking, lux coupe with a touch of sport.. the car pulls fine for my taste :)

then you should also recall that the 335i was faster, with better ride, handling, and brakes. Also Motortrend did a comparison test where the G37's power steering quit. Anyone can get a bad example that doesn't work at any given time.

Star, you're obvious oblivious to any other car makes besides BMW or any other German makes. Your idiotic rant about how horrible the G37 is pretty obvious that you took the test drive just to say its bad just so you can prove you drove the car - and no matter how good it drives - you'd still dismiss the car. I've owned a 350Z before and the V6 engine is amazing. It shouldn't be any different in the G37 - plus, I think most comparison between auto mags have said its either a tie or the BMW won by a very slight margin or vice versa. For you to say that its that horrible just means you just downright don't even like the car.

There is no doubt that this "Star" is just trying to demean the Infiniti G37 by citing his imaginary driving experience. I am sure that he has not driven a G37, because his descriptions don't reflect the experiences of many who have driven the car.

Mr.Star says, "The car is awfully cramped inside, feels really heavy, the engine is extremely noisy, the transmission and the clutch belong in a Ford truck , and I swear if I didn't know the number of horsepower this car has, I would 've thought it has less than two hundred based on the way the car pulls." And I suppose he is making this claims about G37 based on his experience of his adored 335i, because later on he downright claims that G37 is nothing in front of a 335i. And because he does not provide us with any other yardstick of comparison from which he is basing his deductions, and mind you people's experiences are always a reflection of comparison with another experience: for example if a hotel room seems extravagant to you then it might be because you are comparing it to your ordinary single room home, so we will have to logically assume he is comparing every experience inside the G37 to his experience in a 335i.

Well to refute his first points i point out that actually the G37 is roomier than the 335i's cabin.
BMW Infiniti
Headroom 37.1/36.1 in 37.7/34.5 in
Legroom 41.8/33.7 in 43.8/29.8 in

He calls the engine extremely noisy and that the clutch and transmission are suited for a Ford truck.

Well the VQ35DE has been a winner of Ward's 10 Best engines of world for the last 10 years alongside BMW's N52B30. And this car has a 6 speed manual transmission just like the BMWs and uses paddle shifts with down shifts to 0 for rev matching for gear. And i have checked the reviews at Motor trend and Insideline, and nowhere is there any mention of any displeasing engine noise or jerks while changing gear, or any mention of the transmission being slow to respond. So It seem's even this claims by "Star" are contradictory to experiences of many others who have already driven the car.

Then he mentions "I swear if I didn't know the number of horsepower this car has, I would 've thought it has less than two hundred based on the way the car pulls."

Well as we all know the G37 has 330 HP compared to BMWs 300 HP and the pull of the car during acceleration that he is talking about is dependent on the weight to power ratio, the lesser this number, the faster a car pulls. Well according to motor trend
following are the weight to power ratios of the two cars
BMW Infiniti
12.0 lb/hp 11.4 lb/hp

From what we have seen so far, i can not restrict myself from concluding that Mr. "Star" is an outright lier.

motor trend and insideline and other numerous magazines point out that G37 handles the corners with no fuss and feels rigid and stable with direct communication between road and steering. And all the technological innovations incorporated in this c

the 335i won in all the performance categories from handling to ride to acceleration to cornering, etc.

they picked the G35 because it provides the most performance FOR THE MONEY as it's $10,000 less.

this point is lost on many of these folks.

though the GT-R appears to be a remarkable performance car, it's in a package that looks low-rent and unsophisticated. nissan doesn't come close to understanding design the way the germans and italians do.

a little insight here boys....people buy porsches and ferraris and astons just as much (if not more) for their incredible good looks as for their performance. and most of the time they're just sitting in traffic, so looks rule.

imagine picking up your car at the valet and asking for 'the black nissan' or 'the silver porsche.' you tell me which guy the blond supermodel is going to notice.

This car has no chance to sell based on the engine. At 5000 RPM there is probably about 25% torque available. Unless you drive next to redline 100% of the time, the engine feels dead when it comes to power. I am not a fan of Lexus IS350 but the engine in that car can pull. If you drive an IS350 and a G37 back to back the Lexus feels way more powerful.

but it's kinda true.

if money isn't a concern and you want the better performing sports coupe, you buy the 335i.

Yes, I agree... if you can afford it, just get the best, no questions asked. The 335i is a superior performer and IMO it still look better (though they're close), and its extra cost is justified. It will serve you well and you will enjoy it over the entire course of ownership.
