New Info on Mercedes SLC/Gullwing Uncovered
The collaboration of the Mercedes-Mclaren SLR comes to an end next year as each manufacturer will go their separate ways to create a new model of their own. We already reported earlier this week some inside information on the Mclaren version, now come the turn of the Mercedes.

The new Mercedes SLC/Gullwing will be aimed primarily at the Porsche 911 Turbo with a target price of roughly €150,000 – both a coupe (codenamed C197) and a roadster (codenamed R197) will be produced and it will be slightly smaller than the outgoing SLR.

Mercedes will introduce a new advanced aluminium spaceframe technology which will contribute towards a target weight of 1650kg distributed 48% to the rear and 52% to the front which is 45kg less than the SLR. Mercedes are also reported to be developing a new composite brake system which is not just lighter but also stronger and less fade-prone than the conventional set-up.

The exterior design will be largely based on the SL class which has been received very well since its facelift earlier this year. Although There will be certain design elements which will tell it apart including roof-hinged gullwing doors, almost upright bi-xenon headlamps, LED tail lamps, a motorised rear spoiler and a pair of downforce-producing front and rear aprons.

Power will come from AMG's 6.3-litre V8 producing 550bhp and 445lb ft of torque, allowing the Gullwing to achieve 0-60mph in just 3.8 seconds, maximum speed stands at 185mph – fuel consumption is said to be 14litres/100km.

The coupe is likely to make its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with the roadster set to arrive a year later, there are only 6000 units of each model planned for production and is currently pencilled in to stop in 2013.

Not bad but it lacks traditional Mercedes design language. The Lexus LF-A is a more pure design with elements from all the great Italian masters in it (in my opinion).

How is it more pure if you just said it copies from the italians? -_-

Pininfarina, Bertone and others. Those guys. Their designs are good but if we're honest the LF-A just makes them look old and outdated and lacking creativity.

LOL, some people go just too far with dragging unknown lexus brand in every single automobile article.

Actually I consider myself a solid Lexus fan. I feel the LF-A is an awesome design and will be a great car once it is ready for production. The design is polarizing and modern. When you look at say a Lamborghini Miura or a Ferrari Dino, they look boring and bland and outdated. That's my point.

You're dead.
I mean it, you have just insulted the best car designer in the world.

1. great photoshop. very imperial-trooper-ish. very traditional benz styling.

2. why the hell do you build a roadster when you already produce the SL? what differentiates this from the SL (to many) is the fixed roof and gullwing doors. making a roadster eliminates that....unless they make gullwing doors on a roadster...which i don't see happening.

3. 1650 kg is good, but a little lighter would be better (i know, they will never be lotus). i know, it's comparable to most front engined ferraris.

I like the injection of the traditional Mercedes elements into the design - I always did like the blocky look.
Large Mercs should always look like someone evil is driving them - see the 80's SE and SEC.

W...O...W... sincerely I'm speechless, this car looks great. Now, like e34 i think the roadster is will be a waste of time, for the same reasons he posted. Again, great car, great evil-lookin-design, kudos to them if it tends to be like that.

Get rid of the Honda/Acura "beak". But the rest of the rendering is very nice.

185mph top speed sounds a bit slow in my opinion. I think that it should at least crack 200mph.
