New Lexus IS 250 SR turns on the heat for summer
Hot in the wheeltracks of the storming IS F comes another new Lexus, the IS 250 SR. This sporty addition to the IS range expresses its performance credentials with a full body kit and 17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels on the outside. Aluminium scuff plates and pedals add subtle visual enhancements on the inside. Heated front seats are also fitted as standard.
The IS 250 SR is designed to deliver some of the sporting allure of the IS F and IS 250 Sport at a high value price. Based on the entry-level IS 250, the new model is packed with features that have a combined customer value of more than £3,500, yet the price tag is less than £1,000 greater model-for-model.

You make fun of Mercedes interiors because you haven't sat inside a Mercedes before. You should really stay up to date and see the quality materials used in today's Merc's. They have really worked hard to get interiors fitted better with high quality materials and they have done a good job.
Funny the article mentioned "body kit". Are we still in the rice rocket days? I thought Toyota Altezza's were obsolete. Think again it's just in different form. *Ahem* The badge change.

Lexus IS interior is best in class if you really think about it. Best ergonomics, design, materials and easy to read instruments.

I disagree, the interior/features/comfort is what makes this car appealing.

I agree Rupert. It seems to be the case with a lot of Lexus products. They look amazing the first year and then they start aging quickly

a IS 250 sports car, sounds as silly as a BMW 325 sports car.

At least the BMW 325i actually performs spiritedly. I used to have one. Can't say the same about the Lexus IS250 I drove. That thing was a pig.

clearly you haven't driven either car.
there's an enormous difference between the two--especially in handling and ride where the 3 really shines.

the 325 i had (cannot remember whether it was 04 or 05 model) did sounded spiritedly and loved high reving, and had a great trasimission (smooth and alwasy chooses the right gear) for as long as i had the car. but that engine, much to my disappointment, was no where near powerful and sporty.

There's the problem Ghosthunter -- you had an automatic. Why even consider a small Bimmer if you're going to get an automatic? These cars are made for manuals.

I really don't get Lexus. The first gen IS300 did 0-60 in 7.2(M/t) and 7.5 (auto). Why would they just make that the base engine. The IS350 is a solid 3 secs faster than the IS 250. I kind of get the better fuel consumption and lower emission but hey really could have done better with the inline 6. This is very embarrassing to even add "sportiness" to this. A driver can go to 60 in a IS 350 or BMW 335 get out and do it again in a Veyron or Lambo before the IS 250 hit's it once (just kidding but you understand what I'm getting at)

IS250 is not the same 'base engine' as IS300. We here in Middle East gets the IS300 with 228BHP. 0-60 in under 7 seconds.
and isn't IS250 in some comparison beat the 335i in salolam...etc. IS250/IS300 is actually quite fun to drive and not how u lexus haters are making it to be.
Far better than those 320is, 323is, C180s..etc. And not to mention no contest IS250/300 just kill those cars in inteior and value.

Jugnu being a moron as usual. Who the hell compares an IS250 to the 318i or C200 Kompressor? Those cars are good for what they are. People are happy these cars exist because not everyone needs a fuel-inefficient V6.

In the US, we get the 204hp IS250 and 300+hp IS350. We also get the 328i/335i, not the 318, 320, or 323.
You're right, the IS300 was a straight-6; the IS250 is a V6, but the poster's point is that the old car handily outperforms the IS250 in a straight line. And while the car may "numerically" outperform a 3-Series in the Middle East, I can assure you no one in the States in a 3-Series is worried about a Lexus outperforming them.

I have the IS250 and am well pleased with it. I get 26 mpg in normal driving around town, I have the 18" wheel option and the handling is great. Very smooth on the highway. The acceleration is more than adequate.
I sold my 325i for this car and my only complaint is that the IS weighs 3450 lbs vs 3150 for the BMW - but I guess all cars are getting heavier.

"acceleration is more than adequate"
You must be used to some seriously slow cars. My 7 Year old BMW 330i will destroy that 2008 is250.
The IS250 is an underperforming dog. But whatever floats your boat I guess. To put it in perspective the IS250 offers less acceleration than a corolla.

The Audi A4 2.0T with 4 less horsepower is more than a full second quicker.
The Audi A3 2.0T with DSG is nearly two full seconds quicker.
Both are less expensive than the Lexus IS250 and both are as nice on the inside to boot.
You made the wrong decision.
The new B8 A4 will have more power than IS250, far more torque, less weight than current A4, a nicer interior, better style and will retain a similar pricetag.

from the thread about the LF-A winning its class at the recent race at Nurburgring:
"note too that in the SP5 class, a Lexus IS250 came in SECOND, DESPITE being the SLOWEST car in its class on lap times. a full 1:02.4 slower than the winning M3.
"ALL THE OTHER m3s also broke down before the race ended.
"just like its Toyota brethen, fastest or not, you can expect Lexi to GO THE DISTANCE and still be running long after other cars have broken down."
and, it was ONLY a 4 hr race!
