New Mazda6 MPS and Mazda2 MPS coming by 2010
We’ve heard Mazda was considering it before and we now have confirmation from AutoExpress. Work on the Mazda2 MPS (Mazdaspeed in the U.S.) is almost complete. Using the new three-door Mazda2 hatchback as the basis, power is expected to come from a turbocharged version of the 1.5 liter engine producing up to 230-hp.

AutoExpress also tells us that an MPS version of the new Mazda6 is also on the way and it will definitely be a head-turner with body enhancements such as new spoilers, larger intakes and lowered side skirts. Rumor has it that Mazda will use a turbocharged version of the new 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine producing up to...

with 6 MPS they are targeting cars like vauxhall insignia VXR and ford mondeo ST , definitely not EVO/STI . mazda 6 is bigger car than EVO/STI and mazda doesn`t has AWD that can match this two .

What about putting AWD on the Mazdaspeed3? that would be ultimate sleeper car!

^yes but it would drive up the price and at the time that the Mazdaspeed6 was on sale, it would have cannabalized its sales.

Also the speed6 is more polished and bigger as someone already mentioned than the evo/sti.

HERE IS AN IDEA STOP MAKE MORE CARS THAT WE CAN'T DRIVE DO TO GAS PRICE'S

MAKE A CAR WITH A 15GAL TANK THAT GETS 50 MILES - 80 MILES TO THE GALLON.

THAT IS THE 2ED REASON PEOPLE AREN'T BUYING CARS SUV AND ALL THAT WE WOULD RATHER TAKE THE BUS ....

Sorry I'd rather drive a speed3 than take the bus. But you are welcome to ride it yourself....

IMO I think that they need to leave the 4 cylinder for the six alone and put in the twin turbo 6 that Ford is going to have thats good for about 350. Now that would be a flagship

This is the world version Mazda6. They don't have a V6 option. But ignoring that some people prefer to have the lower curb weight that you get with the 4 cylinder It isn't all about straight-line speed, handling is also important.

For the world Version I can see how the Speed6 is an important car, but here in the US I see it as being very pointless. They made the car larger here to fight the Camry and Accord (at the very least be mentioned in the same breath). I don't think there has ever been a performance Accord or Camry. That may be the idea, to separate themselves from the competition, but if the V6 Mazda6 gets a 3.7l 270ish hp motor, then the 280 2.5t really isn't going to be much different. I really am saddened by the size increase. They should have just saved the R&D money and given us the Atenza/6 everyone else in the world is getting. Maybe now my new Mazda halo car will be the new Mazdaspeed 3. If the trend continues this car will be larger (therefore just the right size for me), have an excellent design, and be my next vehicle.
