New Mercedes E-class Revealed
The people over at Autozeitung appear to have photography of the new MB E-class minus any help from computer renderings. Hence this photo appears to be the real deal of the new E-class. The front of the vehicle has retained the signature four eyed headlight layout and MB grill . The only question now is how will the rear end look on this new MB.

Now you be the judge- as 001 would say STUD OR DUD?

It IS FUGLY!

- a bad interpretation of the Lexus GS
- the rear doors look weird not classy or practical
- the rear is very bland (the previous generation was too but that looked "pleasing")

But then again, I blame most of its weird looks on bad photography and stupid designers that designed the car from only one point-of-view.

I wonder if Merc is gonna send another batch of pictures showing what the car would have looked like...or maybe it was all in that Concept UnFAscinaTING

All in all, there's only two words to describe this car: bland and weird

hao420 - Yea,Headlamp kinda look like GS luxury sedan....

LOL did you have to say "luxury sedan", we know what it is.

Anyways, i'm not too fond of this design. The outgoing one is was and still is one of the best and more classy Mercedes sedans in it's segment. It's outdated now but still very classy.

I wasn't use to the current generation of the S, CL, and C classes but i've grown to like the CL and C classes and have purchased an S. I'm not too sure about this E-class.

Maybe it'll grow on me once i see it on person or once i see an E63 model. I won't be quick to call it a dud but it surely isn't a stud yet.

I'm underwhelmed and quite honestly, disappointed. The E-class has always been a favorite model within the M-B portfolio. I'm in awe of the SL and CL cars but they get me excited at the moment and then that's it. The E class (going back to the 1980s) however is the one that would make me defend the M-B name when talking about cars to my friends, and ultimately, led me to buy one back in 1998. This one won't cut it in this intensely competitive market I'm afraid.

I probably should have elaborated. The current gen. CTS looks great. As 204E60 says below, "The forward-canted, downward slope in the profile is over-exaggerated". That's where I was going with my comment.

Honestly though, the current E Class is the Desert Eagle of the luxury sedan market. It might not be as precise as a true sports sedan, but it looks fantastic in it's execution.

Its ugly. The front end and rear are just ugly, and the doors are trying to look like a Kia or something.

They're trying to beat the GS, but in their dreams, this design though fits the taxis, which what the E class is used for anyhow.

and in the US the LS sells more than the S-class, does that make it inferior? Heck, the A8 doesn't sell at all here, but IMHO is the best one overall.

+3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
You didn't get my point. "Beat" usually implies in sales. Quality of the car is unrelated. I think the A8 and S are better than the LS also. However, in this case not only is the GS far below the E-Class in sales, but it also doesn't do anything better as a car. The only one that has a better engine is GS350 vs. E350, but if you want fuel efficiency the E320 Bluetec is superior the GSh, and the E550 is much faster than the GS460.

This new E has an awkward, block-ish appearance. I'm a fan of the current C, CL and S Class but prefer the outgoing version of the E over this new one. In short, a dud.

there was an interior shot yesterday, to which I say "boo!" It looked like a blinged out 2008 5-Series interior (which, in MB's defense, probably means people will love it, since everyone loves the S-class interior and it looks very much like a redone current gen 7-Series inside).

Anyway, I LOVE the current E-class interior, in my opinion it is classier and better aesthetically than anything else in the class. If the photos of the new one are accurate, not only is it worse looking outside than the current car (what is with those Lincoln taillights and the upturned chrome strip on the side of the car???), but they destroyed the interior.

I'm sure they'll still the crap out of them though. People in that pricerange tend to buy whatever is "new".

They are the best sellers in their price range for completely different reasons.

Corolla sells(mostly in America) because sheep was indoctrinated to believe that is a reliable car, not because it looks good. Not mentioning that people who buy Corollas don't have much choice considering their budget

3 series BMW sells based on both looks and top notch driving experience. It truly sets the standard in its class.

The E class represents the reliable, classy, built like a tank family sedan. Together with the 5 series they are the choice for the buyer who doesn't want to settle for anything less than the ultimate in automotive. This type of buyer doesn't even consider the poor offerings from Lexus, Infiniti and other mediocre Japanese imitations.

Denali,

I think you got the information from the wrong place. BMW and Mercedes are in a class of their own...supreme engineering. The other manufacturers you mentioned are just producing cheap imitations.
GS is an abomination both in design and engineering and it doesn't even come close to an E class Mercedes or 5 series BMW.

No, it doesn't. Sales have nothing to do with how good a car is. However, Designer1 said that Mercedes was trying to "catch up" to the Lexus GS, which doesn't make any sense seeing as the GS is not a leader in this class. Not in sales, not in looks, not in anything.

StarSearchStarSearch - 9/29/2008 9:01:46 AM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
The GS is right at the top for interior refinement alongside the A6, the 5-series and E-class IMO do nothing to justify their prices. And the GS350 IIRC is one of the faster cars in it's segment, right near the 535i. Looks are speculative and really can't be proved.

S4cabriofoxoneS4cabriofoxone - 9/29/2008 12:38:06 PMView My AgentSpace
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
The E-Class is a bit overpriced, yes, but the 5 Series absolutely justifies its sticker. It may not have the luxury of an A6 or GS but it easily beats them both in terms of driving refinement and handling. It has a fantastic ride/handling balance, as well as some great engine choices, that can't really be matched.

As for this vehicle replacing the current E class, I will have to see what comes out at the autoshows (Detroit possibly?). Merc has to understand the importance of the E-class. It is the everyday benz, roomy, luxurious, powerful, decent economy, style, stance, etc etc etc. Not overstated (SL, S, CL) but not the cool & hip C class. The E-class is one of those vehicles that you just dont want to screw up with radical changes.

Sorry amazinBimmer. The Audi A6 outsells the BMW 5-series and MB E-class in worldwide sales.

Contrast that with the swagger demonstrated by Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler and Johan de Nysschen, head of Audi of America, when they stopped by Fortune's New York office a day later. As they were more than happy to report, Audi recorded its 12th successive year of growth in 2007, with sales of 950,000 cars worldwide vs. 700,000 as recently as 2004. The Audi A6, its middle-of-the line sedan, outsells the BMW 5-series and the Mercedes E-class.

Moreover, despite cool economic conditions in the U.S., Audi expects to sell one million cars next year, as developing markets in China and Russia pick up the slack. And Audi has set sales goals all the way out until 2015, when it expects them to reach 1.5 million cars.

Gotta give props to BMW for driving dynamics, Audi for their interiors, but M-B for their exteriors/style. Trust me, once you guys see the E63 out or a 550 Sport, you will be drooling.
