Our friend Chris over at Edmunds just did a comparo of the new 370z against the 135i and picked the Nissan as the winner over the BMW.

Here is his final analysis::

"Thinking of the Z-car as a sports car is one thing, but we can honestly say that there's not another sport coupe that can touch the new Z. Dare to compare."

No question in my mind the new Nissan 370z is big improvement over the model it replaces (I REALLY like it!), but is a 'Z' shopper really comparing it against a 135i in their buying research?

I highly doubt it.

I personally love the new Z but I think the two buyers that shop these cars are like comparing guys who will pay whatever it takes to get the Bell & Ross, Rolex or Panerai, to the guy that spends the whole lunch hour showing you the features of his Citizen ECO-Drive watch.

And 3 years down the road is the 'Z' going to be within 15k of resale value to the 1?

By the way, before you blast me, I own one of all of those brands and I love them all, including the Citizen.

But the Citizen is virtually worthless if I had to resell it.

But the Bell & Ross, Rolex or Panerai's will bring the money, even in bad times.

In the end, I love reading these hypothetical comparo's and we love writing them ourselves and seeing the comments, but these cars will probably NEVER be cross-shopped.

Two different customers in our opinions.

Definitely, a USELESS comparison, but we love it all the same!

How do you feel?

Are these customers the same and do they cross shop these two models against each other or are these two buyers as different as Palin vs. Biden?
