Agree that it looks great, and I note it has 5-spoke wheels which I like. I hate wheels with 5 bolts and 3 spokes or 6 spokes for example. I note that it has LSD which cars like Mercedes and BMW do not even offer -- the Koreans seem to be able to combine good styling with good mechanical engineering.

Altima meets ES350?
280HP is a lot for what will probably be an FF car.

Yeah, but Accord coupe = FF. Without launching into a flame war of FWD vs RWD, I can say with all certainty that RWD would be far preferable to the car guy.

Having to see the 2008 accord Coupe pretty often now, since one of the neighbors works for one of the local Honda dealers and sometimes drives one, I'm just not finding it anything but Weird Looking.
There's something very 'off' about its overall proportions/shape that just just 'Gell'.
This Hyundai looks much more interesting without resorting to looking (too) strange... So far.

I'm seeing the Accord sedan everywhere, DaHarder, and I respectfully disagree with you. It has an upscale air about it that can't be matched by any other car in the class, although the Camry is close... the Accord looks better than an Acura TL, in fact. Very classy.

All's Well -Though I completely disagree, but admittedly, I wouldn't be inclined to buy something like a Honda Accord anyway, as I have no need for a mid-sized family sedan.
I see it as another mundane automotive appliance, and an unattractive one at that.

wow...this vehicle is going to crush competition in sales.
imagine, a 300hp 280tq rwd coupe for about $30k loaded and have 100k/10yr warranty!!! whose going to match those kind of specs options?
Hyundai has been improving year after year and this just shows the beginning of the capabilities they'll have for the future.
i remember my cousins hyundai excel back in the early 90's...was one POS!!! but look what they've become. kudos to the Hyundai team, and hopefully it won't stop here.

It sounds pretty good, though remember, the previous GTO (2006) was $34k for 400hp. Regardless, this Hyundai will definately be something to look into. To make it a winner, all they have to do is keep the weight down and offer an efficient drivetrain.

i wonder what will happen with the tiburon...will they make it smaller and offer a civic sized coupe and this be in line with the accord. or will they just get rid of it.
i know the tuscani in korea is the tiburon over here...so this could just take the place of the tiburon.
i dont think i've even been this excited over a hyundai since they've been a manufacturer!

I see A LOT of IS250/350 and G37 inspiration in the front. I see a lot of G influence in the side profile.
Looks OK in their execution, the dip in the belt line is....interesting.
If the can pull off the drivetrain and make it efficient it will be a hit.
Also, they HAVE to really nail the interior with quality materials, fot and finish and innovative design to even have a chance at catching a prissy car guy'e eye/wallet. (read autospies patron). In Hyundai's case, they have to go above and beyond just to be considered competition for other RWD coupes.

is350, I was just reading a very old thread for no reason in particular, which at the time was breaking news. Hyundai posted it, and it had to do with us learning that the newest Lexus car would be called the "IS-F." The two of us got into it in that thread, and it did make me laugh. It had to do with the naming system, which at the time I thought was creative and interesting (still do). You should read the post. I'm glad we have both reformed over the months.

Anyway, yeah, we both have calmed down a bit. I've become more open to different car makes, not just the Japanese. BMW is one of my favorite brands now and I've really started to like Audi and Mercedes. I just hate Hyundais and I'm sure I'll never like them. Plain and simple.

I just looked at the current Consumer Report and it did not recommend most of the Hyundai models. It did recommed 2 models (one being the small Elantra). I was in Los Angeles for the Memorial Day Holiday when the car rental place ran out of cars and gave me the Elantra instead of what I had reserve. The car performed a lot better than I had expected it to. It accelerated well, and the gas mileage was impressive. If the quality and the driving mechanics feedback of these new cars are impressive, I would definitely look into it to replace the outgoing BMW 3 series.
The BMW 3 series is way too over-priced, and the upcoming 1 series release is as well. This one is a great value.
