New Toyota Tundra V8 Produces 381hp
Although I question Toyota's usage of such a large engine to produce 2hp less than the 4.6 in the LS460 (probably for the extra torque), this is a big step up, and clues us in on the new Land Cruiser / LX570 engine. - S4cabriofox

"Through the digital grape vine we came across an article on MSNBC that rehashes the impending battle between Ford, Chevy and Toyota on the full-size pickup front. We've heard this story before, hell, we've told this story before, but what caught our eye was close to the end of the article when MSNSB Business Editor Roland Jones tells us that the 2007 Toyota Tundra's top engine, the i-Force 5.7-liter V8, will produce 381 horsepower."

Yes, it is for torque. It better (and most likely will) pump out more than 400 pounds of torque. Contrary to popular and misguided belief, DOHC engine acutally make more torque than pushroad engines. For example, the 5.2 liter Audi DOHC engine makes makes just about the same amount of torque as Chevy's 6.2 liter pushrod. Sure Audi makes torque at higher RPM, but a 6 liter Audi engine makes the torque at low RPMS and has more torque. (450 vs. 410?)

Where are those Toyota fans who claim "MB needs a 5.5-l V8 to get 388-hp / BMW needs a..."?

Well, Toyota needs a 5.7-l to get 381-hp! :p

If Toyota got 570hp out of this engine what would happen to the torque. They made this thing to tow, not run down Autobahn (and you can't tow with 380 ft-lbs at 7000 rpm). Also this will cost what 28k, while the S550 cost 80k.

;).

If you recall, awhile ago, some Lexus fanboy was praising the LS460 using a pretty stupid argument.

"The LS460 makes 380-hp from 4.6-l while MB "needs" 5.5-l to get 388-hp."

It wasn't my intention to troll, but see my first comment above as a little "giving them some of their own medicine" kind of post. ;)

And yet, Audi produces a class-high 420hp from a naturally aspirated version of the smallest V8 of the manufacturers mentioned, only a 4.2. And the 4.2L was introduced about ten years ago, in the original A8- so it's pretty much the best V8 in any luxury sedan, because they're able to get so much ooomph out of a relatively small engine.

I say, Lexus, Mercedes and BMW could learn a thing or two.

Wilco,

I am no MB expert, but picking 5.5-l as an engine displacement has its advantages I believe. Who knows why they did it? So aftermarket tuners like Brabus etc. can have some fun with the engine? I don't know.

Fact is, SILLY ARGUMENTS regarding HP / Liter prove nothing. Mercedes has never been known to produce excessive horsepower per liter, that's one reason why their engines are so durable: less wear and tear.

Why Lexus picked a 4.6 is beyond me. Who cares, really? Kudos to Lexus for the power they tickled out of that engine.

I think we can all agree that if either manufacturer here wanted to, they can tickle out more horsepower and torque out of these engines. But these motors have to be optimized for different markets etc.

So do u deny this BMW530i.
If no....Then what's your argument?

And don't tell me the MB's 5.5l V8 got a lot of torque. It has only 530 nm of torque.
That's very near to what NEW LS produces considering the LS uses nearly 1 whole litre less.

OK come to the topic.

BMW530i and other toyota bashers.

What about those Toyota HATERS who said that the Toyota SUVs are always low on BHP.And we told them that toyota will address it soon, especailly, when the people will start noticing and demanding for more BHPs.And see the people's company listened to us and fullfilled it's people's demands, needs and wants...etc

The thing i love the most in Toyota is that they listened to their existing as well as potential coustomers very well.
That is what separating them from others and putting them closer to the success.

All in All,Toyota is going to add a great All-New engine in it's Toyota/Lexus Line-up soon...yeah

Toyota/Lexus for Life

You guys are comparing Car V8's against Truck V8's!(apples and Oranges)Trucks don't have that much HP beacuse they use a bigger displacement than a car's V8,thus creating more Torque than a car's V8..You show me a car than can haul as much or more a this Tundra!!
If you want to talk about car V8's,then wait until the Lexus IS500 comes out which "may" produce 450hp,according to Edmunds!!

That's what I've been saying.

But even so, the 4.7L V8 with only 270hp (LC/LX), that's still in production, is laughable. I mean, torque, I know, but 270hp???

And originally, it had 235-240hp! Lexus produces power that's comparable to that in the IS250!

If the hp is anywhere near 381hp imagine how much torque this beast will put out! Dodge ford and chevy better look out cus Toyota is difinetly not play mr nice guy anymore. now imagine a 4x4 dually tundra that will surely increase the sales numbers.

It doesn't matter how big Toyota makes the engine for this truck. It didn't matter that Nissan made their Titan as powerful as they did. Ford will always be the best selling and highest selling truck.

And yes, it is also the best selling vehicle in America. Why, because when people want to buy a truck they know where to go.

Toyota makes good trucks at prices that the masses can afford which is perfectly fine with me. But when you get in the middle of a construction site you see "mostly" Ford trucks out there.

So bring on the "just-short-of-400bhp", it will be a good engine. But Ford and Dodge and Chevy still are on top.

I must say- this has become a really unpleasant, hateful place. It sure gets old seeing the German car fans mindlessly trashing ANYTHING from Lexus or Toyota. Although I love German cars, it puts a bad taste in my mouth when I think about them and associate them with the likes of EL34. Just my opinion.

It's still a Japanese truck. But the Germans do not have a truck even though on the BMW website they call their SAV's a Light Truck(that's funny).
