A move toward smaller vehicles by car buyers has been one of the effects of the current economic downturn. This has been underscored by the fact that VW Polo has received 13,000 orders in the domestic market although the car has been set to hit the market by the latter portion of June this year.

The carmaker gave out an official statement stating that the production of the five-door VW Polo will start in the latter part of March 2009. The German launch will go ahead by two weeks of the European launch. Powerplant lineup for the new Polo will include five new units, TSI and common rail TDI which will be utilized in the Polo for the very first time. The engines in the lineup have all received optimization for the most economical fuel consumption and lowest possible CO2 emissions, with ratings as low as 3.6 liter/100km and 96 g/km of CO2.
