New rendering of the BMW Progessive Activity Sedan (V-series)
During last month’s official future strategy presentation BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer revealed plans for several all-new models including a design study dubbed the Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS). Details were brief but we were given an obscure design brief for the new concept, which is said to highlight efficient packaging methods and intelligent functionalities. As with most BMW concepts, the PAS will eventually spawn a production model slated for introduction around 2010.

BMW will once again be stressing the car’s coupe characteristics just as it did with the X6. Expect to see extremely short overhangs, pumped fenders and optional 21in wheels. The wheelbase will stretch just over 3m with overall length around 4.85m.

During a recent interview, BMW exec Klaus Draeger said a second PAS could be built if the first model proves successful. Draeger also confirmed the name of the new range would start with the letter ‘V’ in the same way that the letter ‘Z’ is reserved for sports models and ‘X’ for the SUV range.

I couldn't believe what i saw today.

BMW X6 looks like the 2 year old SsangYong ACTYON SUV.

I can't believe BMW copied SsangYong/their idea (as it's already on sale for 2 years now).

JUGNU - You are definitely seeing things...there is no resemblance other than they are both SUV shapes...with your logic the RR Phantom copied the Hyundai Azera.

Wait until the X6 comes out and you will see how dramatically different they are in shape, size, and scale. Yeah, right BMW is going to copy another manufacturer...hate on idiot.

So essentially this PAV 'thing' is a lowered X6/Fast-Back 5-Series?

Sure is what it looks like in these renderings...

If it's a lowered X6, where does that leave the X6? The 5 Series? The CS Concept, which will make production--aren't they all too close to this? It's ridiculous. It looks good but that's not enough. Too many models.

this looks more like the 4 door hatchback/coupe version of the next 5, which looks rediculous and i hate that new grill, it looked fine on the cs(well sorta) but all the renderings ive seen of MAYBE IDEAS of what next 5 and 3 look rediculous, it makes the cars look way to brash and avant garde, that has never been BMW....but i guess every company needs a new direction at some time(shaking my head and convincing my self to believe it)

It is a similar concept to the X6. Guess thats where BMW got their idea.

No, that looks like an even uglier Pontiac Aztek. At least the X6 is sexy. I guarantee you they weren't thinking of the Actyon when they designed it.

That's because it's unnecessary to reply.

You knew when you posted that, that BMW fans would be offended and that it really isn't true. You were just trolling.

S4 be sensible atleast sometimes. How can u gurentee me or anyone for that matter.

"You knew when you posted that, that BMW fans would be offended and that it really isn't true. You were just trolling."

Maybe u don't know i also like most of the BMWs.
But i just saw a SsangYong (Actyon) recentley and it was amazingly close to the upcoming X6.

So what if it comes from not so well known company. The idea is quite similar.

So as u or everyone say.The one which came/coming later
copied the earlier one.

btw S4 u usually say Lexus copied BMW and all that ...etc so what happened when BMW copied another's idea it's hard to swallow.

again Your bias is amazing.

"S4 be sensible atleast sometimes. How can u gurentee me or anyone for that matter."

YOU be sensible. It's obvious that BMW WASN'T looking at a picture of Ssangyong when designing the X6! They may have similar profiles, but to deny that it is just a coincidence is futile!

"Maybe u don't know i also like most of the BMWs."

That's not what it seems like from most of your posts. But if that is true, is it that you only dislike BMW fans? So, assuming that's also true, is it clearer now why I sometimes hate on Lexus? Because of the idiotic FANS, not the cars.

"But i just saw a SsangYong (Actyon) recentley and it was amazingly close to the upcoming X6.

So what if it comes from not so well known company. The idea is quite similar."

You just proved my point.

"So as u or everyone say.The one which came/coming later
copied the earlier one."

Nobody copies anyone in car design! Well, except the Chinese. But outside of that, no, there is no direct copying! Just similar ideas and inspiration!

"btw S4 u usually say Lexus copied BMW and all that ...etc so what happened when BMW copied another's idea it's hard to swallow."

I have NEVER said Lexus copies BMW design. They're just similar (see above). Lexus wants their cars to have a sportier flair, so the most obvious brand to look to for inspiration is... BMW.

And why wouldn't I be able to "swallow" the X6 copying the Actyon? Well, I'll put aside the fact that it simply DIDN'T for a moment; it's also because the X6 is a gorgeous SUV. The rear windows may be similar... but that also goes back to the Pontiac Aztek. Interestingly, the BMW makes that window line look awesome. The Actyon doesn't. The BMW looks classy, expensive, desirable. The Actyon doesn't. See where I'm going?

"again Your bias is amazing."

How so? Do you claim to be unbiased? I'm not rational, and I'm certainly biased (it's truly impossible not to be), but where are you going with that? Your bias is just as "amazing" as mine.
