Next Bentley Arnage to be bigger, V12 TDI diesel in the works
Volkswagen Group owned Bentley is already working on its new flagship Arnage and recent test mules prove that the next-generation model will be bigger and a true Rolls-Royce beater. Recent spy shots show that the B-pillar of the Arnage has been widened providing a more spacious interior.

The big shots at Bentley are also considering using a high-performance diesel for the next-generation Arnage working together with sister company Audi. Word is that the V12 TDI seen in recent Audi R8 concept could find...

I cant wait!!! I expect this car to be nothing but pure elegance. Bentley still manages to keep that timeless class that Rolls lost its way with with the huge brick shaped, over the top, and dare I say tacky looking? Phantom.

My mindset exactly w209w114. If the new Arnage uses an all-aluminum body, it will never rust and can be passed on to succeeding generations.

So they think a V12 and a W16...that is going to be one powerful car. I hope they keep the V8 though.

the v8 is not that good of an engine, too rough for a super luxury engine

I favor the V12 as it is extremely smooth and a W-configuration is a needless complication. The Audi V12 TDI is the perfect engine for this heavy car.

It's old, but it's a big part of Bentley's heritage.

The Volkswagen Phaeton (and every other high-end VW Group vehicle) is one of the most technologically advanced cars in existence.

If by "the most technologically advanced cars in existence" you mean cars catching fire due to unrevised electronics, then Yes, VW is the best at that.
"high-end" and "VW" should never be written in the same sentence.

how???

take a look at how Bentley has done much better than Rolls Royce since the split

Read Matthew1's blog entry below. Like he said, if the Volkswagen Group can design and build the Bugatti Veyron, then they can do anything.

And like S4 said, the Phaeton may have been a marketing failure, it was a technological success.

Think before you shoot yourself in the foot again, okay Bimmer? You are on the verge of needing a prosthetic foot by now.

well dont make all of us bmw owners and fans look bad, despite VW ownership the current Arnage for better worse or lack of wanting to create a new car is essentially the same car that was created by BMW and introduced in 1998 with get this a "BMW" V9 its 2008 and it the Arnage had seen little change other than ownership and interior without BMW buttons like the original did, and some slight styling changes same goes for the Brooklands and Arnage convertible which is very close in styling to the Bentley Azure, and Contintal which have been out since the late 90's also

bmwdrv - actually the current Arnage is a very different car underneath than when it was launched. It looks the same but they reconfigured nearly everything, there's more room, way more power (it's gone from 350 hp to over 500), more torque, different suspension, it handles differently and it's more luxurious. Mulliner will do you anything you wish for in your Arnage. Seriously, ask for Lapis Lazuli door handles and they'll do them, for a price.

i wouldnt call an UPDATE, being completely different from the same car that was released some 10 years ago, and obviously planned created a few years prior as magazine journalist have said in regards to the Arnage it feels every bit its over a decade age even with the updates. Which may make it more appealing in the eyes of its buyers i guess in a G class sorta way.....I would rather have one than a Phaeton honestly which is tacky and overwrought to me, but given the chance i would run right by this over a decade old car with some new makeup, and a workout

Larry,

If VW can engineer the Bugatti Veyron, then it can do anything.

I am quite amazed that some Americans 'percieve' VW to be an 'economy' brand. It simply isn't true.

And on the same note, is BMW the pinnacle of motoring? No. It's merely half-way up the ladder.

(BTW I'm using American methodology of placing car brands on some imaginary scale, totally disregarding the merits of the cars themselves because I have some whacked-out perception of certain, well-established brands and because I'm a moron (Hypothetically))

"And on the same note, is BMW the pinnacle of motoring? No. It's merely half-way up the ladder."

If BMW is "halfway up the ladder" than Audi must be half of that...kidding

Anyway, I think in terms of producing drivers cars BMW is near the VERY top. When it comes to building class leading entusiest oriented cars, the only companys that consistently deliver are Porsche, Ferrari, and BMW. BMW produce some of the most balanced chassis on the market, and in reguards to engines BMW is the pinnacle.

and chewy-"take a look at how Bentley has done much better than Rolls Royce since the split"

Most of Bentlys products are down market(300K-150K) from Rolls Royce...so it would make sence that with a lower price it would be attainable by more people. Almost all or Rolls Royces products are 350K+. And before BMW accuired Rolls Royce in 2000 VW owned them for several years, while knowing BMW would recieve the rights to the company in 2000. you dont think VW would have tried to get a head start in the time period....mabye by not up dating RR models very offten while they where doing the workd to the bentlys..(in the the process slightly tarnishing the RR nameplate)...

This is a car that makes a lot of sense. A sedan with a simple, yet elegant design. Why can’t Ford succeeded at building sedans anymore? They should design them big and tall, with a classic shape and classic grille. Ford doesn’t have to build to this level of sophistication, but I’m sure they can build a fuel-efficient sedan by equipping it sensibly with a small v8 diesel and going with an 8-speed transmission. Better yet, a 2 speed rear end can be made for city driving (Low gear torque) and Highway economy (Overdrive Gear) there is too much emphasis today on the jelly-bean shape, this concept has ruined the affordable sedan. Why the domestic car builders insist on building sedans with sloping roofs that people have to bend their neck to get in and out of is beyond comprehension.
So I really love the design of this car, but for most, this car is beyond affordable. Who would want to drive this car for your sales job? You wouldn’t want to park this car near irresponsible people or even anywhere near a parking lot for that matter.
As for the Phaeton, this was probably the most luxurious car I ever sat in, consumer car anyways. I was convinced that the phaeton was the absolute best car I had seen at the Detroit Auto show, spanning several years. The Audi A8L would be in a close 2nd place for me.

Imagine that, you may now get your Arnage Phantom-sized- would you like a hood ornament with that?

I have always loved the Arnage- it has a subdued classicism about it that is very refined. I was car shopping with a friend and that had a special concourse something or other edition Arnage with a chrome capped grille. You had better believe that I pressured him to buy it- alas no such luck. We both agreed though, that the large special edition stitching announcement in white on the dark headrests was too much and would have to be fixed- i.e. redone without such stitching.

Bentley is no doubt an ultra luxury car and also looks and feels like one.

But RR got a lot more Presence. It's more majestic. In the crowd or parkings u can see/figure RR clearly but Bentley is a bit like lost in the traffic.
Example: Looking at the road from a higher place, if theres a RR, u can figure/identify it.

Even a non enthusiast, when seeing the RR can say it's some special car as it's huge/unique and looks like leader of cars. Bentley not that much. Actually it's quite regular looking. Only the passionate and it's potential coustomers would fully appreciate and aknowledge it's beauty and value.

BTW can't wait to see new Arnage, i think it will be more evolutionary than revolutionary. and Bentley discontineo that twin turbo V8. Only 12 cylinders suits these king cars.
