Next Ford Focus to get 4-cylinder EcoBoost and 40 mpg

Finally it will get a worthy engine. This and better (IE excellent) driving dynamics will allow Ford to catch Honda and Toyota in the small car segment. However whats missing is a gas/electric option as well as diesel.

I still support the idea of bringing the European Focus on style alone. They seem more practical and can equal the fuel economy of the American Focus.

It suprises me the author said, "Some of you may have liked the new Lincoln C........."

The 2009 Prius and Civic hybrid have an EPA of 45 mpg highway which is only 3 mpg more than their new engine with EcoBoost. This would be a great time for Ford to consider sharing the 2010 Fusion hybrid technology with the 2010 Focus. Albeit, the initial claim of 43 mpg may be off, it's likely to be fairly accurate. A Ford Focus hybrid should be able to achieve mileage that could put it above the Honda Insight and Civic hybrid and somewhere closer to the Prius (possibly exceeding it). If done correctly, the American consumer will begin to focus on Ford. (pun intended)

Finally, after million years, Ford is catching up with Volkswagen and their twincharger engines. Or actually they don't because as I know Ford, they will not mate supercharging and turbocharging in a single small capacity engine as VW did (and Nissan and Lancia earlier). Hence their product will be inferior to VW. Exactly the same can be said about their double clutch gearbox. Ford's PowerShift has only six gears, unlike newest 7-speed DSG from VW AG and it not only worsen fuel economy but also affect performance negatively (conclusion from manufacturer's brochure about Focus 2.0 TDCi PowerShift). Meanwhile, 7 speed DSG increases fuel economy and performance remains the same or better. But, you know, Ford < VW.

Well that is a given when they are the only 2 fighting. I do not believe this crap. Ford so far couldnt get 40mpg out of a hybrid so what makes you think that they will reach this? I bet its more like 31-33 so they wont hurt their mazda....err i mean ford combination (fusion) sales. VW already has a NA gas car that gets around 50mpg called the lupo and over 70mpg with the diesel with granny driving of course.

I think Ford is moving in the right direction, at least in terms of powerplants and better looking sheetmetal. Sharp looking design, hope it makes it in final production.
