Next-Gen Mercedes SL Spied
The Italien Autoblog has posted a photograph of what seems to be the next SL. As you can see above, the majority of the car is covered with a blanket or hidden, but you can clearly see the left headlight and part of the grill. Judging from this picture the illustrations (below) that we have seen in the past, is almost identical. It seems Mercedes will not be using the rounded headlights for the SL anymore, and move to the C, CL-esque rectangular shaped instead, as we already stated that in the past.

that's a short hood for an SL. CLK maybe?

It looks too tall to be the SL, I'm in agreement with 1995, it looks possibly like the CLK. And i do miss the 4 round headlight look.

It may be higher at the front than the current SL in order to better meet the European pedestrian impact regulations. Also the silver car is probably a photoshop

I'm just not liking these new 'Benz headlight designs, they're just so... Ordinary.

They really had a rather distinctive/signature look for quite some time, and then BLAH!

wait, it actually does look like the love child of the SC and SL, now that I think about it.

The current Gen looks damn near perfect. The new one needs to look more agreesive than this. The new C has a more aggressive front end.

Huh, to be honest, I dont know what I think of the picture. I'm not yet convinced that is the next SL nor do I believe the picture below it is an accurate representation of what the SL will look like.

Wow.. could this be any more uninspired? Looks very clunky and has a horrid flow to it... Maybe it's just me.. Some of these new benz's look pretty blah... The CL looks like a Toyota Solara... Not impressed

Holy cow, the CL is incredible. It's also incredibly expensive, but nonetheless.

the CL is sex on wheels. lol

it is really really gorgeous car. If i had 100K, dare i say it, i would buy that car in a heartbeat before i even glance at an LS600Hl

I would want the CL65 AMG. It has a 604-hp V12 and has better gas mileage than the CL63 AMG and the CL600, which both have a considerably smaller engine. Although, it is $200k.

I don't like this spy shot.

It's not the new CLK, BTW. It has been reported from more than once source that it's another SL refresh. Why do they need to put CLS headlights in? The ones they have now are so classy, and fit perfectly with the design... I remember when the SL500 came out in 2003, and I was like "WOW." Not this...

At first glance I like it. It looks alot like a modern version of the old SL R129. Well, atleast the front.

I bet it will looks fantastic in AMG form.

I am surprised that nobody said that the headlights remind them of a 2000 Porsche Boxster or a 911 Carrera.

Request for Advice: - Thinking about spending $40-$55k on a new/used vehicle. While I was thinking about the BMW coupe at first, a used (2003-2004) SL costs about $45-$55k, and a used CLK (2003-2004) costs about $35k. For the money, I was thinking about going the SL route. Any suggestions?

SL all the way. 2004 SL500. Fantastic car.

The only thing is, get the BMW if you need to seat four people. I'm guessing you're referring to the 335i. The 6 Series, on the other hand, has a pathetic excuse for a rear seat- which is strange, because it's 10 in longer than the 3 Series.

Forget the SL. In a years time, the new one will come out and you will be suffering. Get the 335i, you wont regret it. Why not even opt. for the sport package?! Saw one the other day and it looked brilliant!

Thanks for the comments. I have to say, that I hardly think I'd be "suffering" in the SL one year down the line, but the 335 coupe (you were right S4) does look pretty amazing. I was thinking about the 6 coupe as well, but I really think that the design will show it's age pretty soon, and that the SL is a much better value proposition.

Good luck. But you should at least make sure that model is reliable.
