Next-gen Mercedes SLK 63 AMG
Mercedes' aging SLK roadster is due for a complete update in the next couple of years, and though it’s still early in the design process, this rendering gives some insight into the direction Mercedes may be headed with the third generation of the popular roadster.

The current Mercedes-Benz SLK has been on the global market essentially unchanged since 2004, though it recently underwent a mid-cycle facelift to keep it fresh until the arrival of the new model that’s expected to arrive early next decade.

The first two generations have been extremely successful, selling more than half a million examples since the launch of the original model back in 1997.

Wow, ~450hp in a little roadster? I don't think Audi or BMW have any plans to put that kind of power into the TT or Z4. Well done, MB...you're gonna need a big shoehorn.

If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing.....

Problem is, seeing that the current SLK 55 has problem keeping the power down, the SLK 63 will be even worse.
A British magazine took a bunch of cars at the track, and NO one liked the SLK 55. Said it was a waste of time.
Oh yes, it will be fast in a straight line, but like any AMG cars (maybe except the new C63), these cars don't do well at the track.

Times have changed a lot in AMG since then.

If you're basing your entire opinion off of some random British magazine going out and testing some cars then I hope you at least see how stupid that thinking is..

Wouldn't the SLK63 be too close to the SL63?

The same way the 55 was.

I disagree. The SLK55 put out 360hp while the supercharged SL55 put out 493hp. If the SLK63 puts out the same power as the C63 at 451 and the SL63 produces 518hp, that difference is much closer. That being side, the difference in prestige between the SL and SLK is huge.

Answer this: How do you know exactly just what the output for the SLK will be?

I don't, but you would think it would be similiar to the C63 as they are more "entry level" AMG cars. I don't think it is unreasonable to make that assumption.

I dont think its "reasonable" to make any assumption based on speculation when each AMG model although bearing the same engine produces different horsepower and torque.

PLUS You were comparing an ultra heavy car like the SL with a lighter SLK. The HP numbers dont mean much from a performance point of view when the differences are that large.

So until official numbers are released by Mercedes, I can't even guess at what the horsepower of this car would be? Brilliant thinking there.

Oh come on, youre firing out a cheap shot here. You can guess alllllllllllllll you want.

The point is your comparison of the SL and SLK was a bad one, and you are purposely failing to acknoledge the point I made against it, and getting into the technically of my statement. Nice try but no.

You also spelled "acknowledge" wrong. Do you think the SLK63 will have less horsepower than the C63?

Yes but there will be a significant power drop..just like the C63 and E63.

There is no way that anyone could predict what the next SLK will look like. We dont even have any Spy photos. This is wild speculation at its finest.

That being said, Im glad the person who did this photoshop wont be in charge iof designing the next SLK

I'm actually quite surprised that the 5.5 AMG V8 hasn't been replaced with the 5.8 litre '63' AMG model in it's mid-life refresh. They updated it before the mid life revision on the ML-Class, CLS-Class ... Why not the SLK?

ATTENTION PEOPLE WHO SAY A SLK63 WOULD HAVE TOO MUCH POWER FOR THE CAR TO HANDLE

It's only a difference of 0.3 litres - it's still a V8 engine. Why Mercedes don't replace the SLK63 and calle it the SLK58 I don't know, but in the end it isn't going to make a lot of difference.
