Next-generation 2011 BMW 5 Series spied

Looking at the photo above you may think that this is a 7 Series mule judging by the size of the vehicle but this is not true when you stack up to the size of a late model 7 Series.

This prototype vehicle is about 12-18 months from a production date with a possible reveal at the Geneva or Paris Auto Show.

You can expect the next generation 5 Series to have styling characteristics in comparison to the new 5 Series Gran Turismo but of course still having the same great sedan stance. Engine choices should ring in with twin turbo V8 , twin turbo V6 , and most likely a diesel.

Merc: Better exterior design
Lexus: Better quality/reliability
Audi: Better interior design/material
Porsche: Better handling/dynamics/engine

ok dlin, fair enough, you've chosen one facet for each brand that you believe they do absolutely best, better than anyone else. Now tell me which one brand does ALL THOSE THINGS COMBINED better than anyone else? Maybe not best at any one of them (and that's debatable), but the best amalgamation of all of them? Because I'd be hardpressed to pick any of them over BMW if what I wanted was every one of the attributes you chose mixed into one car.

All of what you mention is subjective, and just bias. None of the brands you mentioned are great in all those aspects, BMW, has excellent quality, more reliable than most mercedes(not to mention better desighn? since when did a ton of chrome and oddly placed desighn cues count as desighn sounds like a 70s lincoln way to traditional), and certainly Audis(not to mention resale values), lexus doesnt have better quality(unless tons of vinyl, and wood toned plastic is quality) their reliabilty record for the new ones at least is very good, and Porsche makes 2 models that compete with BMW, and the Cayenne certainly doesnt handle better than the X5 or X6 and is much slowerwhen compared to the X6, except the turbo.

Actually, their process of only using wood in each car from all the same cut of wood flies in the face of what you just said...

That depends of your own expirience.....For me till this moment MB is the best, I had very bad expiriences with BMW, however could be bad luck. With Mercedes all my expiriences are great, so for me there is nothing like the benz, Powerful, reliability, endurance, and I need a car that allow me high speeds with security, something that I don't feel from BMW.

Thats crazy. I feel the mercedes steering is getting softer and feels less secure at high speeds. The BMW's feel amazing at high speeds. I have been guilty of going 150 in mine and it feels great and effortless for the vehicle.

2ndbimmer you hit the nail on the head with that one. I have to admit I've never driven an AMG Mercedes but the bimmers do seem to beg you to go a little harder even at high speeds
