Next-generation Mondeo will be the Ford Taurus in the U.S.
Now that Ford of Europe is raking in some money, it can afford to explore new models that will build up the brands image. According to CAR Online, Ford is working on a four-door-coupe version of the Ford Mondeo that is currently only available in a sedan and wagon variant.

As we already know, Ford is now making all its upcoming European models of global potential. The next-generation Mondeo is also expected to replace the current and disappointing Ford Taurus (yes that rebadged Ford Five Hundred one).

Due out in late 2012 or early 2013, the next-generation Mondeo will see few changes especially to its front fascia that will incorporate the...

Thank God, the current Mondeo is the best-looking family sedan in the world, IMO.

This Seems Rather Unlikely As The Taurus Is A Full-Sized Vehicle, And The Mondeo Is Not Even As Large As The Mid-Sized Fusion/Milan/MkZ Triplets.

Who Knows...

I took one of these out for a test drive with my sister not to long ago, and I have to say that for a car in this price range, it is a remarkable car! It has nice handling, while retaining a very comfy ride and the engines are more than adequate (for European needs at least). The 220 hp Volvo engine is just great. I'd like to see an ST version though.. Maybe with the engine from that Focus RS we've been hearing so much about!

I completely agree. 'Mondeo' fits this cars personality. 'Taurus' just reeks of '80s/'90s throwback and doesn't sound exciting.

Taurus is NOT a full sized vehicle, it has always been mid-sized. Grand Marquis, Town Car is Full Sized. Even the Ford 500 Platform is mid-sized, although a big midsize with tall doors.

Ford should just start using the Volvo motors. Maybe this would be a way for Lincoln to emerge away from the base Ford.

Fusion is certainly not a mid size, it is a small car. maybe not a compact, but it is a small car. my dad could not get his head under the a-pillar and his knees didn't fit under the wheel.

The Edge is a beter choice for older people with Arthritis or mobility problems. Easier to get in and out.

EvoAudi- its totally okay to say woo-hoo!! twice. Make it three- if the Mondeo ships into the US with a 6 speed manual.

Exactly what I'm saying!!! Ford, if you are listening; Shove that 300 bhp engine we all know you have in that Focus RS prototype into the Mondeo and call it the ST! That would make a complete mockery of the Opel Vectra OPC and the Mazda 6 MPS!!!

This is too long a wait: the Ford Mondeo is a great car NOW and is desperately needed to take the fight to the Accord, Malibu and of course the Camry. The longer Ford waits, the more it concedes to rivals who can better answer current market needs.
