Nissan 240SX Successor - Nissan's New 2+2 Rear-Driver Will Revive the Spirit of the 240SX

Nissan 240SX Successor - Nissan's New 2+2 Rear-Driver Will Revive the Spirit of the 240SX
Last month, we reported that Toyota and Subaru are joining forces to create an affordable sports car, one that embraced the spirit of the Toyota Corolla Coupe, aka AE86. We have just confirmed reports that Nissan has similar plans, intending to bring its "affordable sports car" to market a year earlier than the Toyota. Nissan's new 2+2 rear-driver will revive the spirit of the 240SX, which has experienced renewed popularity after its discontinuation in 1998, mostly because of the popularity of drifting.
The name of the future 2-door is still unknown, but we're fairly sure it won't be labeled 240SX (nor "Silvia," its Japanese moniker). Here's what we do know: It will be about the same size as the 370Z, sharing the same wheelbase of 104.3 in. Overall length is rumored to be 171 in., and will come in 4-seat/2+2 form.

Finally! The old 240SX was a great car.
Just don't make it look anything like that horrid photoshop.

This should be the Z car. The original was light weight, small, great handling. The Z of today is to big and soft (track pkg. excluded)

would be interesting to see who produces the better 2+2 RWD coupe, Nissan or Toyota.

Credit only goes where it's due, in this world. Much like bush being credited for single-handedly ruining a whole nation, the Euro's get credit for making the best vehicles, and influencing the entire industry. If there was no BMW or benz, there'd be no infiniti or lexus. I mean, if not for the big Germans, who would the pretenders have to steal from and aspire to be?

and bush single-handedly ruined at least THREE nations: afghanistan, iraq, AND the u.s.a. (altho' maybe not quite single-handed. cheney and the neo-con greedheads helped.)
and the final damage has YET to be totted up in ANY of these.

It wasn't discontinuation in 1998, the last S-car was the S15 wich ended production in august 2002.

Nice Photochop... if production car would look like this, Nissan will have a winner. I am glad they are bringing back a fun, rwd sports coupe. I miss that market in the Japanese sector. I had 2 friends have 240Z

I think you meen the 240SX and not the S30Z 240Z. And we realy don't need a new prelude, but a integra.

This is great news. I've always loved the 240SX.
But I wanted to just make a correction for the above. There is no 370Z, It's only 350Z.
1. In the US, it's called 350Z while Japan calls it Fairlady. The same is true for the GT-R which is what we call it here in the US, but in Japan it's known as the Skyline (Godzilla).
2. 240SX is the name in North America and Silvia is in Japan.
3. Just in case for you guys that don't know if Nissan decides to bring back the 200SX for the US market, in Japan it's known as the Pulsar NX2000.
4. In the past, Datsun the name in the US while Nissan was used oversea.
5. This applies to others as well. In Japan, it's the AE86 Trueno and Levin whle in the US it's known as the 4AGE Corolla FX and GT-S.

Correction:
1. The 2009 version of Nissan's Z will be called the 370Z, which I understood to be the reference here.
2. The US 240SX was, in JDM form, labeled Silvia only in 2-door/notchback form, as the turbocharged hatchback was called the 180SX (regardless of engine displacement).
3. The Pulsar moniker was never used on the JDM models in question, only on Sunny/Sentra-derived sportier versions of two (lesser) 1980's Nissan models, and (later) the configurable notch/sport-back model of the late 1980's.
4. The Datsun name was used in both the U.S. and JDM markets for many years, and in the JDM market, the name Datsun still remains on their small truck offerings.
5. The Toyota FX moniker was used only on U.S. FWD hatchback versions of the Corolla, whereas the AE86 Trueno and Levin were both names for the exact same RWD sportier verions of the Corolla during that period, marketed through different dealership networks.
Note: A Little Fact Checking might have helped here... or, like me, having lived there for over a decade...

lenkun likes to pull information out of his ass to make it look like he knows something about automobiles and the industry, when in reality he knows nothing.
He's tried to share his "wisdom" a few times and I think he fails to realize that a number of people on this site actually KNOW what they are talking about.

"Will Revive the Spirit of the..."
I'll believe it when I see the specs. They said the same thing about the 1-Series remember? and what we got was bloated, little girl's car with piano on the roof handling :)

Well, it'd be easy to improve on the original's 'spirit' (even easy for a company like nissan, that only produces half-ass engineered, thrown-together cars) since it was so horribly mediocre. And dont get me going on that 2nd generation, that was so damn boring even the people at toyota likely laughed at it.
As for the 1, don't hate; appreciate this game-changing little coupe. It's obviously nowhere as bad as you try to make it sound, seeing as it's top dog, and kicks the g37's ass so bad that it sent nissan running to the drawing board to make a lighter, cheaper competitor-that'll likely still get beat down by the 1.

I guess their VQ engines that have won many times along with BMWs twinturbo engines are half-assed right? what about toyota? thats right toyota fanboy, they haven't made anything exciting than what BMW or nissan offers.

The reason the new 2009 Nissan Z is going to be titled the 370z is because it will be sharing the same powerplant that the G37 is currently using, a 3.7 liter V6, at least that is what i have heard!

Please don't give it CVT...I have to agree with JUGNU, the front looks great but I rather have that thunderbolt badge than a Nissan one, and the wheels are obviously taken from a GTR. Can't wait for it to come out!
