BM46, The mind is like a parachute, it works best when it's open. First of all, (and I truly mean this) thank you for your service to our country, without individuals like you the list of freedoms we enjoy (sometimes take for granted) in this country would fit on a post-it-note. Having said that, the benefits of some of these games far out weigh the drawbacks, provided you do not become addicted. Here are a coule of items I found interesting from the article. 1). It explores how games connect to the reward circuits of the human brain. 2). Pattern recognition, system thinking, even patience. Lurking in this research is the idea that gaming can exercise the mind the way physical activity exercises the body: It may be addictive because it’s challenging.

BM46, To answer your question you bet, the article cautioned readers as to the addictive nature of the games. Infact, it was implied that some of the games were designed specifically to get you hooked. I live in a state where gaming is legal, game theory is a subject that is taught in the universities here and the addictive nature of some games are treated as serious as drug addiction. But as with most things in life, there is a balance somewhere in the middle. As far as the kid goes, I try to stay away from the graphic first person shooter games. It's funny though, to see a 7 year old kid pull off a high deflection shot with flawless accuracy, (as long as he kills the bad guys) the other night he engaged in a little fratracide (starwars game) where he killed the storm troopers. I asked him what the hell he was doing and he said he was pretending to be a bad guy so he could kill more bad guys. Needless to say we put in a Tony Hawk skateboard game and shelved the starwars game for a while.

This software modifies the action of the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), which incorporates the so-called launch control protocol." --- This should be an easy fix for them because I think it's pretty clear that they've been tweaking the engine management software for some of the cars they supply to magazines for testing. ---- E.g., from a Car and Driver article: "That GT-R from the May issue launched at 4500 rpm; 4400 rpm is the final setting for production. This GT-R may have been down on power; the May car ran the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds at 124 mph. This one couldn’t crack 12 seconds and was a stunning 9 mph slower. All major automakers have problems with their cars. Only in this case it just happens to be a car that is still in the spotlight, even though its been out for quite some time. Anyone who is bragging about Porsche shouldn't do so so soon ( if anyone is) because I purchased a 2007 Porsche Cayman with 27 miles on it and after driving it for 1 week the car started clicking when the turn the wheel left or right. As it turns out, the struts were completely worned out and were about to come apart. The guys at Porsche had no idea how it happened, including the salesman.
This comment is not meant to sway anyone to not buy Porsche but, just an example that even major car company like Porsche have major issues, too. BTW - after the Porsche was fixed, I traded in for something else.
