Nissan GT-R produces 475HP at all 4 wheels
A few days ago we were talking about Nissan wanting to get the GT-R to an SAE-certified 480hp so it would match the Porsche 911 Turbo, one of its chief rivals. It looks like that should be an easy feat if the dyno numbers coming out of Japan today are solid - and it looks like they are. According to testing done on a Dynapack dynamometer, the new GT-R pumps 482PS (475hp) to all four hubs, with torque peaking at 580Nm (428lb-ft) at the hubs.
Assuming parasitic drivetrain losses around 15% - although the loss could be even larger given the GT-R’s all-wheel drive platform - that would put power at the crank around 550hp and 495lb-ft of torque - absolutely insane numbers for a 3.8L engine, twin-turbo or not.

I wouldn't want to be caught dead in one of those! I'd much rather put down twice the cash for a proper Porsche instead of this thing... Even though it might be faster and better handling... It might be a fast car, but a Porsche it ain't!

This car has performance that is world-class.
0-60 in a Nissan estimated 3.5 seconds and it can lap the Ring in a 7:40ish or whatever.
We haven't had official tests done, but something tells me this car will outrun the 911 Turbo to 60 mph. Yes, I believe the Nissan GT-R will be able to produce a time better than 3.2 to 60 mph and it will lap the Nurburgring in better than 7:38, which is the official time of the Porsche 911 Turbo.

I don't think it will do any better than 3.5, because even if it does have DSG, it's still 3,800lbs and 480hp isn't enough for it to be faster than the identically-powered Turbo. The Turbo is also getting its own DSG and 20 more horsepower next year, which will certainly shake things up.
Not to say the GT-R's performance isn't incredible; it is. But to say that it will be quicker than a 911 Turbo in a straight? I don't think so.

S4, this one is for you, the Nissan GT-R will make the Audi R8 look like a VW Passat. Stop denying the fact that Nissan will run from 0-60 in less than 3.5s.
Who care if the 911 turbo's face life is coming out, the Nissan GT-R V-Spec is coming out a year after the base model. Rumor has it that the GT-R V-Spec will be much lighter and will have up to 550+ hp to go against the LF-A and NSX.
You can be number forever, sooner or later someone will beat you. Just to remind everyone here, the original Nissan GT-R was the first sportcar to crack under 8 min mark at the Famous German track.

I suggest that everyone learns how to read, the dyno chart posted clearly states 482 PS at the FLYWHEEL! Which means that the original poster at http://www.nagtroc.com/forums/R35-Dyno-t20782.html , the article at Motor Authority, the person who posted this article, and everyone who read this all missed that little fact.
Now the GT-R will be a great car, certainly the only thing in its class (4 seats and the performance it offers at its price) but claiming the numbers shown at the wheels instead of the flywheel makes many people feel there is to much fanboyism going on. That said I wonder if/when I will get to see one run in person.

The Audi R8 is definitely is a true performance car, and an instantly classic. But if you need a V10 to beat an a Nissan V6 twin-turbo, than it is nothing special.
I still think the Audi R8 is an amazing car and would love to own one. But as for performance wise, it can't touch Godzilla, at least for now.

I would like to see the car in more tests . The dyno numbers combined with its 3800 weight make that 7.38 seem like a one time event with a hand picked car.
I am not selling my 997tt but I might consider replacing one of my other two cars with a GTR if it really is that incredible . I have doubts.
Even at 3100 lbs and 505Hp the stock Z06 sounds faster than this 475Hp and 3800 lb car .
The Porsche has 480 but with sport chrono it bumps to 520 Hp weighing 3494 lbs .
One other thing -- There is a lot more power even in the current Porsche . I feel that the manufacturer held back the Hp but with the GTR coming out and V10 Audi I can understand why.

Why is people constantly comparing this car to a porsche 911 Turbo?! They are completely different cars! Might as well compare it to a Bentley Conti GT! Or a Rolls Royce for that matter!
The Porsche is about so much more than just the numbers! The GT-R is ALL about the numbers. And that doesn't appeal to me nor anybody else out there who can afford a Porsche! I'd much rather cough up the cash for the cheapest 911 than buy this thing!
They can pump it with all the horsepower they want, it still won't make it compete against the european sports coupés or the exotics!
The GT-R is an amazing piece of engineering, no doubt about that and a whole lot of effort probably went into forcing this car past the Porsche around the Nordsleife (by one second), but it still only appeals to the people who have gone the step beyond enthusiast and become a car nerd instead! When I pull up next to a GT-R (if i pull up next to a GT-R) I will, no matter what they do to it, expect to see some dimple faced teenager! And that makes the car completely and utterly unappealing to me... Despite it might being a fantastic car!

475 to the wheels is amazing with only 10 or 11 psi on the VR38. And the DSG tranny takes some of the drivetrain losses out, but with the rear mounted transmission and the AWD system parasitic losses I would imagine to be closer to 20%!

If Nissan had 475 hp at the wheels, you can be damned sure that their official rating would be much higher! Close to 600 hp as that would be the flywheel hp which is what you are usually given by the manufacturer! Especially on a car like this where the numbers are so important (it is basically what sells the car)...
As someone pointed out, the article is flawed... The 475 hp was meassured at the flywheel... Still impressive, but far from 475 whp!

If both the 911 and the GT-R have about the same power the Porsche should be able to outrun it in a straight line and top speed, because of its lighter weight and no AWD the GT-R also has a long driveshaft running from the front engine which also adds to more power loss. The lighter rear engine RWD Porsche 911 turbo has a much lower power loss and on high speed tracks it should be faster then the GT-R. On the other hand the handling and 0-60 should be better in the AWD GT-R.

If both cars have about the same power the GT-R will have a much greater power loss then the 911 it’s also significantly heavier then the 911. I'm not sure which one is more dreg coefficient but the 911 should do better at higher speeds then the GT-R. The traction of AWD in the GT-R gives it a better 0-60 and better handling on slower and windier tracks where it should prevail.

I don't care about what german and american car fanboys have to say, but this car is starting to look like the benchmark in the segment. It is not the fastest, 997 is faster in the straights, but in overall performance - handling, quality feel, handleable pricepoint, and tremendous power- this car will even trump the R8. This car looks set to become the most important car of the last 5 to 6 years. And guess what, even if i had the money, i would not be able to buy one, because there are guys waiting willing to pay 10 to 15 grand more than MSRP to get a hold of this car. I will take this car any day over a Z06, which is a very compromised car built only for the track, and by the looks of it, the godzilla is even better than the 997, and finally the R8, it even trumps the Audi because of the very manageable price, compared to the six figure price of the R8. This is an automotive breakthrough, trust me on this, this will force the other companies to improve their cars for the next generation, and this is why it is a revolutionary car, this will show the auto companies that big performance can be delivered in a manageable price point, and that is why i call it the most important car of the decade.

"handling, quality feel, handleable pricepoint, and tremendous power- this car will even trump the R8."
Well, the R8 doesn't compete with it! WHY ARE YOU COMPARING THEM? I could be considered a potential R8 buyer, because I really want one and have the means, but I just don't think I'd want a two-seater. Anyway, I'll give you price and power (those are obvious), but the R8 has better handling and much better "quality feel." Have you seen the inside of the GT-R?
The GT-R is amazing. But out of all the cars you mentioned, it only competes with the Corvette Z06, because they have similar prices, similarly stunning performance and similarly cheap interiors. I would also pick the GT-R over the Vette. The styling and AWD are what clinch it. But don't compare it to my automotive desires, the R8 and 997 TT... that's when I turn into a fanboy.

EXCUSE ME?! I've modified more cars than you'll ever dream of kiddo... But that doesn't change the fact that the GT-R is a geeky car and the only "real" car people who will give you ANY respect are the other kids who've ruined their cars with silly overdimensioned spoilers, crome spinners and some goofy 7-tone paint job! Those are not real car people to me... It is a silly car for people who can't actually afford it... that would be 10-year olds with a playstation in case you didn't figure that one out yourself... it is as much a halo car as the Audi R8... It is an attempt to help Nissans sporty image and attract buyers who can't possibly afford a GT-R but maybe an Altima, which obviously has the same handling capabilities because they share a badge...

S4cabriofoxone, i respect your opinion, and i guess that if you are willing to put down 100 grand, then you will probably look at cars around that price margin, not something that is less expensive, for example if i could afford a Audi A4, i would not be looking at a toyota camry. But think of it this way, compare the Lexus 600H and the Lexus 460, the hybrid brother costs over 20 grand more than the petrol sibling, and suppose that i can afford both, will i be buying the LS600 for sure, well probably not, because even though the hybrid is more expensive, and way more prestigious(earning several review accolades) i still have a good chance of buying the LS460, because performance and quality of material wise, the cars are very similar, so why would i pay 20 grand more. The thing is with my first comparison of A4 and a camry, they are no comparable, because they don't have anything in similarity, but with the case of GTR and 997 and i dare say even the R8, all are very similar cars, take it or not they actually are. All are very well made(and S4Cabriofoxone GTR interior is not lacking in quality it was made to look retro to have similarity to older GTRs, and besides look at Porsche interiors they are as bland as the ones found in the GTR, well the R8 is a different matter altogether, but all cars are very well made, read any review of the GTR and you will find conviction in my claim), all of them provide super performance and handling(and how do you know that R8 handles better than the GTR, have they been tested together yet?, now your claims are making you look like a fanboy, i suppose!) and offcourse they are very user friendly and easy to use. And offcourse all of them are loaded with the latest of chasis construction materials and the latest of drive train technologies and off course in car gadgets (i don't have enough space otherwise i would have listed those technologies in a list). See that is why it is natural to compare all three, because all of them give you pretty much very similar offerings, and that is why i have compared all three, and i just happen to find the GTR as the best of the bunch, just as you have the other choice the R8, and i guess choosing one from three similar offerings is not illogical for a human brain. And to "TheSailor", you said that "the R8 is cool, and the GTR is just isn't", well i am sorry to disappoint you but many will take the GTR to be cooler(me included) and you will find many views that any one person have may not be shared by others, so please don't make such outrageous claim.

Right, I know, I would buy the LS460, too. But that's different. You basically gave me the most worthless $100K car (LS600hL) to prove your point. The R8 and GT-R are absolutely different... the two LS's aren't.
You say:
"The thing is with my first comparison of A4 and a camry, they are no comparable, because they don't have anything in similarity"
And then you say:
"with the case of GTR and 997 and i dare say even the R8, all are very similar cars"
Woah, woah, woah! Back it up! You're completely wrong! The Camry and A4 FWD are more similar than these three cars ever could be! They are as different as three sports cars could possibly be! THEY CAN'T BE COMPARED!!! I can't stress that enough!
"well i am sorry to disappoint you but many will take the GTR to be cooler"
I disagree. The GT-R is a great value proposition. But cooler? Nope, that's the R8. It will always be in the front of the best restaurants, it will always get attention from friends, it will always be the car people want to drive...

Some may love the GT-R look, some try to like it and some hate it. It is a awesome deal price vs. performance. Personally im trying to like it. But few things still bothers me. First the absence of a manual transmission is a turn off, second the size..i love them wide but the height of it bothers me and lastly the placement of the engine for me, fails to qualify as a exotic....i wish it did.
Until you own and experience fully what Porsche engineering is about, some cant understand the love for the beast. I enjoy mine. The presence of the
GT-R doesnt change it but held me back in ordering my Turbo. Porsche will not have a issue deliverying something to overcome GTR stock vs stock. Dont get me wrong GTR will have potential with aftermarket stuff..
German engineering vs. JP Tuner loving....
Ill probably get my hands on the GTR after all is said but you better believe a 09 Turbo sitting in the garage as well. My question then is to all the GTR lovers, if you given a choice between both cars to own for 5 years (free)....still a GTR over a 997 Turbo?
