Nissan Reports Japanese GT-R Orders Are Exceeding all Expectations
Nissan took the pulse of GT-R orders on its home turf and reported "strong demand" on Thursday. Word of the surge comes just six weeks before dealers in the U.S. will be accepting pre-orders for the 2009 Nissan GT-R.
"In less than two months since pre-orders were accepted for the all-new Nissan GT-R in Japan, orders have already reached 2,282, exceeding by a factor of 11 the planned monthly sales total," Nissan said in a statement.

Yeah, $70k isn't cheap by most peoples standards but this monster is definitely worth every penny and a few more once they're sold over sticker. Its styling is different but in a good way. Besides it'll look like this for probably the next 8-10 years, you gotta think outside the box styling-wise when planning that far into the future.

what gets me is that they say they want a real drivers car and choose the M3 even if its interior isn't as luxurious compared to the IS-F/RS4.
then the GTR is released with its outstanding capabilities nad they reply with, ohh it's a nissan and has no luxury, has no heritage, has no driver feel, etc
what i've learned from my experiences with German enthusiasts is that their arrogance/biased towards a particular brand blinds them from noticing something that will, in fact, demolish them on that very same Nurburgring the M3 is famed for.
downgrade/deboost/criticise all you want about the GTR, but in the end it will kick you M/AMG/RS a$$!

So in your opinion the Dodge SRT4 is a better car than most of the cars under $50K-60K because is faster? To you the driving experience and the built quality are unimportant as long as you can go fast("kick a$$")". Well, car enthusiasts want more than 0 to 60 runs. They want quality and great driving experience when they choose a car. That's the reason for which they choose a Porsche 911 any day over a fast econobox like the Nissan GT-R. Cars like Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati are engineering marvels in a completely different league than the trash used almost exclusively for drag racing like the Nissan GT-R or the Corvette z06. People that know cars are aware of the fact that numbers are not telling the whole story when it comes to a car. If fast is what gets you all wet, build a dragster.

"Well, car enthusiasts want more than 0 to 60 runs. They want quality and great driving experience when they choose a car."
tell me, do you see them race at a public auto venue? (autocross, racing a full lap around a track) because apparently, I only see mostly japanese cars, corvettes and track ready 3ers as well as the 944 and other FR porsches. I'm pretty sure the buyers of the gtr will take it to its limits. I see more of those cars you mentioned (ferraris, porsches bmws and lots of powerful euros) on public roads than in public racing venues.
they are amazing cars, but sadly, they go into the hands of showoffs and idiots.

No surprise here, The new Nissan base GT-R model goe from 0-60 in 3.5s or less. And run the famous track in Germany in 7:38s, it out run pretty much most exotic cars out there on the road.
Congratulation again to Nissan for job well done! Show the German how to make a real sportcar Nissan ;)

This German-Japanese fan-war is getting old. German need to learn how to make great cars at lower cost. I believe that is
a fair statement from a guy like me who is neutral to both sides. I have owned vehicles from Germany and Japan.

65 grand for this behemoth of a monster performer, surely i'll take it. Not enough money in my pocket now, but this car is certainly in my want to get list. Please ppl don't compare any puny BMW or a MERC to this godzilla, this car will eat the small fishes like M3 and M5s, and well fat Mercs like c63 AMG and SL 550 AMG don't stand a chance against the GTR even in a straight line, and in the corners, well i don't even want to go there, the GTR is probably even better than the 997 and the R8, so others don't really stand a chance.
But i suspect that people will have to pay a lot of premium over the base price, because of the frantic demand on the car, people expect to pay around 75 grand even though the base price is 65 grand. But if you are willing to wait for 6 to 7 months you can easily get the car for the 65 grand base price.

Awe-inspiring.
Would I buy it over an R8 or 911 Turbo? No.
But do I respect it, and the people who buy it? Of course.

XJ13 may be impulsive enough to get a high performance sedan like M3/C63/RS4 over the gtr, because that is his personal preference, but i really pity XJ13 because of what he will be missing by not buying the GTR. This GTR is touted to be better than the 997 turbo in performance and it has the practicality and drivability of the M3s and RS4s.
But people who value performance and look more in what a car has to offer, rather than simple brand name, will easily pick this car over the M3/RS4/C63, and with the GTR being way too better car than these when costing exactly the same of about 65 grand, really you will have to be either a total numskull or totally impetuous to get those sedans over the unassailable GTR.

This is where you're wrong.
No, the GT-R is not as practical as those cars. It is a coupe, after all, and has fake rear seats à la Porsche 911.
Some people NEED the space the C63, RS4 and M3 offer. The comfort. The subtlety.
I love the GT-R but it's not hard to justify buying one of those sedans over it.

I finally got the chance to see it this weekend at the LA auto show, and I never thought it would look that nice in person. The carbonfiber on the front is very pleasing and it blends perfectly with the rest of the cars. Overall, a very well crafted machine with perfect aerodynamically minded lines. No wonder it outperformed the 911 Turbo.
