Nissan is working on a surprise for fans of the original Fairlady Z (also known as 240Z outside of Japan) to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Nissan Motor Co.
Rumour has it that this surprise will be a modern interpretation of the original Datsun 240Z. Think of it as Nissan's take on what a Toyota 86 should be.
"Next year is 80th anniversary of Nissan. We like to bring something celebrating our heritage," said Nissan's chief creative officer Shiro Nakamura, standing next to an original Datsun 240Z as he hosted a visit from celebrity US talk show host and car collector Jay Leno.
If the rumour of a new retro inspired Fairlady Z is true, the model is likely to be introduced in 2013 as a 2014 model. We expect this model to be unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, which will take place between Nov-22 to Dec-1.
