Nissan and Infiniti advertising and marketing chief Jan Thompson abruptly leaves the automaker
Nissan and Infiniti advertising and marketing chief Jan Thompson has abruptly left the automaker.

A spokesman for Nissan North America Inc. declined to give reasons for the departure. Efforts to reach Thompson at her home outside of Nashville were unsuccessful.

The company said Thompson will be replaced on Oct. 8 as vice president of marketing communications by Ben Poore. Poore has until now been group marketing manager for Ford Motor Co.'s Lincoln Mercury Division.

Over the past three years since joining Nissan, Thompson has led Nissan and Infiniti brands into new corners of marketing, such as viral ads, live Internet video streaming and experiential customer relations. Lincoln and Mercury have some of the worst car ads on TV, let alone the quality of their websites...this was the BEST Nissan could find? Or just the cheapest?

Infiniti's commercials over the past years have been awesome (the "brush stroke" concept is great - pays homage to the brands true identity of originating in the land of the rising sun). Nissan's "Shift" campaign has worked well too.

I saw a spectacular commercial for the launch their new crossover, Rogue. I don't know if she was let go, or walked but if she brings that kind of power to an automaker's advertising she's worth top dollar.
