Nissan working on a GT-R more powerful than the SpecV

This car uses a manual similar to what a F1 car uses.

Dual clutch is anything but future.

For small cars, hybridization is the future. Let me compare then the gearbox of Prius and similar designs with a double clutch approach:

Number of gears:

1. Hybrid - infinite
2. Double clutch - up to seven

Clutch required:

1. Hybrid - not required, nothing to wear, nothing to mechanically actuate, engine directly coupled to the transmission
2. Double clutch - very complex concentric double clutch which wears and tears, it has to be hydraulically actuated to work which increases complexity and probability of failure

Number of gearsets required to build a gearbox:

1. Hybrid - ONE permanently fixed set of gears
2. Double clutch - high number of concentric gearsets, have to be hydraulically actuated which increases complexity and probability of failure

Shifting time:

1. Hybrid - 0 milliseconds, add or subtract torque using electric motors and the required "gear" is engaged, no moving parts
2. Double clutch - upshifts when correctly predicted take 8 milliseconds, when incorrectly about 200 milliseconds, downshift 600 milliseconds (Source: Autozine technical schools)

Power delivery:
1. Hybrid - absolutely uninterrupted
2. Virtually uninterrupted provided accurate prediction

Fuel economy:
1. Hybrid - allows putting engine in peak thermal efficiency point more accurately
2. Double clutch - does not allow to adjust engine speed that accurately

So much about smaller cars. As you can see, DSG has no place in there and is only a temporary solution. So maybe it has any future in large cars, usually covering longer distances on highways.


In a word - no. Classic automatic gearboxes perform just as well and are apparently cheaper to make and to maintain. They shift so smooth you don't notice when cogs were swapped (thus no need for double clutch) and thanks to lock-up torque converters, do not worsen fuel economy. Again, there is no need for hydraulically actuated double clutch that wears and tears. Torque converters live as long as the entire car does.

No wonder BMW and Mercedes announced 8-speed automatic being classic ones, not double clutch. Just as Lexus did some years ago.

Nissan did it so that no Porsche fanboy could say people buy GT-Rs only cause they are cheaper.

Others also complained GT-R is too 'affordable' to be considered a true, exotic supercar. Now their mouths are shut.

but that's exactly the point. ask nissans marketing, they will second that.

to be honest: i think they have trouble selling the "normal" gt-r, no suprise in times like these. thats why their press departement throws news about newer versions like a kid snowballs in the winter

the whole industry is in trouble if you didn't realize and if there's one companie without trouble, beside the problem what to do with billions of dollars, it's porsche.

nissan would give their right arm, leg and ball to be in their position, that's a fact.

btw, ever seen a nissan drivin top manager? did any nissan employee ever heared the word profitshare? ever seen a nissan beating a porsche during an offical race event? does nissan even have anything to do with racing? to be honest: i don't know, but they can't be that successfull if they are

i have to admit that the nissan is a great car, and easily beats a turbo in terms of driving dynamics, but that was it.
