Who should win: Camaro for undermining all the soulless analysts and bean-counters who now run the domestic automotive market. Audi Q5 for putting the sport back sport-ute.

Who shouldn't win: Merc E-Class for slapping on an old GS front and calling it new. Acura ZDX for turning the lights on.

There are a bunch of good choices here, so I'll have to put in the ones I think are the best value; not what will likely win.
Subaru Legacy: Great MPG, safe, AWD, innovative CVT
Chevrolet Equinox: Great fit & finish, great MPG, "Large" compact SUV.

I'm not sure I would put the Subaru Outback and Volvo XC60 in the "truck" category. They are more like station wagons than they are like trucks. Perhaps they should add a Crossover of the Year award, to bridge the gap between cars and trucks. Just my humble opinion, though.

For the first time in my life I am happy I am not on the panel for NACOTY. John McElroy and the others have their work cut out for them. These entrants are NOT playing tag football here. This is the real deal baby, and somebody is gonna get seriously hurt. If I had to call it, I would say Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Equinox. Because they are THAT good. To the detractors, the LaCrosse's chassis, the Epsilon, belongs to GENERAL MOTORS. Full-frigging-stop. The execution as introduced by Pontiac (G6), Saturn (Aura), Chevrolet (Malibu), Cadillac (BLS), SAAB (9-5), Opel/Vauxhall (Vectra/Insignia), or Buick (LaCrosse) are as different as the seasons. So calling it an "Opel Insignia with a Buick logo on it" is just the sheer, unadulterated ignorance, so typical of the banterer in question.

tough choices.

you could argue the prius or insight for their progress in automotive design.

you could argue the cts and camaro for finally appealing to a broader audience, and helping make american cars relevant again.

i like the 335d alot, but i could find more arguments in its favor if it were a smaller displacement, less expensive, more efficient offering.

my favorite is the panamera, but can a car that price be car of the year?

i guess i may have to pick the taurus and equinox for the same reasons i liked the cts/camaro, while having greater accessibility.

What the hell is the Kia Soul doing on that list, to prove to Americans that currency manipulation works? Its not like the majority of Americans would even know what that is.
Would've been better off dropping the price of the Genesis, adding more chrome and putting a big "KOREAN" sign on the hood. Everything from Korea is considered cutting edge by "auto journalists" as of late.

We already know the Kia Forte will win next year's award because they were able to masterfully reverse engineer a Honda Civic.

Taht's a really bad TOTY list.
