Farm it out to overseas , , they have the same regulations, bull$hit ! , according to who ? This site is getting just like local newspapers . When the report on just about anything , they start out by saying , "according to experts " Remember when honest journalisim used to give the source where they got their info from and built on it ? . Now they look and see what direction the leaves are blowing and make conjectures or a personal opinion .

Strangely , Germany/France Europe in general manages to do very well by building its own small fuel efficient next gen technology cars.
Last i heard IG Metall/EU unions have a much higher pay rate than UAW.
More importantly , fuel efficient, high tech cars dont necessary mean cheap cars !!!!!
But hey paying attention to FOX news is the same as becoming best friends with Cheney.
You only get a shotgun blast to the face for your efforts :)

The problem with this "quiz" is that there is little facts behind it. It's designed to come up with a specific answer. What kind of cars will GM continue to build? Not cars that Obama says but cars that people buy.

The best selling cars are midsize, then followed by "compact" then followed by "sub compact"

Look up the sales for Toyota/Honda: It always goes like this: Camry/Accord then Corolla/Civic and only then do you get the Yaris/Fit.

For Chevrolet it will look like this: Malibu, Cruze, and then significantly less cars such as the Aveo/Aveo replacement.

Currently Chevy builds the Malibu in Michigan and Kansas, the Cruze will be made in Ohio. Yes, GM will likely sell subcompacts that are not built in the US because they will probably be rebadged Dawewoos.

But the sales volume of Malibu/Cruze greatly trumps the amount of Aveos.

To be accurate GM plans to build only 5-7% more cars over seas in the next 7 years, but with the potential sale of opel and Saab it would be offset greatly.

I'm surprised nobody's posted that Obama has cut funding for hydrogen cars by 65% (cut 100 million from 168 million). I remember Satan-Dubya was heckled when he wouldn't increase funding and said the same thing, hydrogen isn't feasible for atleast 10+ years. I guess he wants America to fall behind in hydrogen as well.

Atleast he's finally picked a White House dog at long last, that's where America's true national interests lay.

GM needs to work on it's new anti-back-fire technology. Start building trucks based on the cobalt and include a prozac air freshener and some of those VR goggles. Make us Believers again General-any way possible. The malibu is too late. the volt is a pipe dream. cheat a little.

001 is correct. The ONLY way to cut significant costs is to reduce labor and the only way to significantly reduce labor is to send jobs (and not just manufacturing jobs) overseas.

For example, the new Camaro was mostly designed by Holden in Australia. And guess what? The typical engineer makes about 25-30% less in Australia than in the US according to WorldSalaries.org.

I won't go through the list country by country but let it suffice to say that the US has the highest salaries in the world so going anywhere else (even Canada) will result in huge savings.

Welcome to the WalMart economy where the lowest price source gets the business. The low lying fruit has already been picked (manufacturing and service). Next in line are engineering, finance, project management, parts procurement, QA, testing, and other high-paying white collar jobs.

And for anyone who says that other countries can't do it as well, I return to the example of the Camaro as proof that they can.
