Official: 2010 Hyundai IX35 revealed

Hyundai revealed today the all new IX35, a brand new successor for the Tucson crossover, which promises to set a trend for its segment and regain sales leadership.

As you can see from the photos, the new vehicle is based on the Ix-onic Concept shown back in March at the Geneva Motor Show and according to the manufacturer it took 36 months and 280 billion won (approx. US$225 million) to develop, so expect something really beautiful! Under the hood the new SUV carries a 2.0-liter engine, either the all-new diesel R or gasoline Theta-II and is fitted with Hyundai’s all-new six-speed automatic transmission. The diesel powerplant meets the latest Euro-5 emissions standards and achieves 15.4 kilometers per liter fuel economy with maximum power output of 184 horsepower, while the gasonline engine has a fuel economy of 11.7 kilometers per liter with a 166 horsepower. The manufacturer also offers the diesel engine in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive configurations, while gasoline engine is available only in front-wheel-drive.

Hyundai is certainly on a roll lately. The Genesis, the 2010 Sonata, and now the new Tuscon are all some of the best looking cars in their classes (regardless of price). More comapact CUV/SUVsSUVs should look this good, and fewer should go around looking like the CR-V, GLK and X1/X3 - IMO.

Apparently there are quite a few who 'Give A Rat's Ass' since Hyundai/Kia is one of the very few car companies actually turning a profit these days, and Hyundai has recently overtaken Ford as the world's 4th largest auto manufacturer. If you’re so NOT interested in what’s going on with these companies, then why even bother responding? Obviously you see the important role that these companies are playing in today’s market, or you wouldn’t respond at all, especially with such hostility. Threatened Maybe?

What on earth would I be threatened by? I don't drive Asian POS cars. Never will. I can afford interesting, ultra-competent, top-engineered cars. Yes, I'm lucky. But my point remains: what is of the slightest interest in these Korean cars? Zip. It's like getting worked up over a Waring blender. I'd like to see this website report more selectively; that's why I comment.

It amazes me how much praise Hyundai gets for their efforts here on this site, especially since their efforts are almost always copies of previous efforts by more-established companies. Hyundai truly is the new Toyota.

The redesigned Tucson looks very good and will give consumers even more choices when considered against Rav-4, Rogue and the top selling CRV. One of the main improvements that this model has over the outgoing is fuel economy.

It is estimated that fuel economy will range somewhere between City 27, Highway 33, depending on engline/powertrain configuration. Combined fuel economy should range somewhere around 27-28 mpg. This is also the first vehicle within its class to feature Hyundai’s own home grown six speed tranny.

From what I’ve seen after visiting their corporate website, http://kr.hyundai.com/kr/, the interior appointments are well above its competitors and will position the Tucson as a segment leader.
