Officially Official: 2009 Pontiac Vibe revealed (With Press Images)
After a video leak earlier today, GM has officially unveiled the brand new 2009 Pontiac Vibe ahead of its LA Auto Show debut. Like Toyota with their Corolla Matrix, GM wants you to think that the Pontiac Vice is a crossover and not a station wagon.
The 2009 Pontiac Vibe packs more power than its predecessors with the base model getting a 1.8 liter DOHC 4-cylinder that produces 132 horsepower. Buyers may opt for the 2.4 liter DOHC engine that produces 158 horsepower. The 2.4 liter engine is stander on the all-wheel-drive GT model.
Fuel-economy for the 1.8 liter with automatic transmission is estimated at 25 in the city and 31 on the highway. The 2.4 liter GT is rated in at 21 mpg in the city and 27.

I am really disappointed that the Vibe does not look better with this redesign.

Fully agree -- it's ugly to the point of being a deal breaker. Furthermore, I never did like the Pontiac grille -- Pontiac styling has gone downhill since about the mid-fifties. Every now and then Pontiac has done some really silly design things like 3-spoke wheels. There must be something wrong with the corporate culture at the Pontiac division that drives executives to defy common sense for the sake of being different.

After looking at the better photos I think the Vibe looks good for an entry level car.

I, personally, think it looks great...
A perfect evolution of the 1st generation.

As the owner of a 05 Matrix XR AWD, I like the new Vibe better than the new Matrix. It actually holds more to the last gen Matrix with the creased lines and flares. The new Matrix looks too much like the little Yaris/Auris combo and those are entry level econoboxes. I would have expected more of Toyota for the next step up Matrix than what they gave us. Not to mention the Vibe kept the rear quarter window where it belongs.
I say good job to GM for giving the Vibe/Matrix the better of the two updates, tastefully done and something Toyota should have taken note of.

The Matrix looks like a Scion. If you look at it again, you'll see.

I don't love it but it's likable. Its definitely an improvement over the last model. GM has stepped up their game a lot lately.

Very nice--much better than the new Matrix.
What makes it look strange is the chunky front end combined with the small window frame. But I think it will look aggressive on the road.

Agreed it does have a more Scion look to it now as well. But the taillamps are very much Yaris looking on the Matrix.
I think if I stick with this model, I will be switching to the 2.4L AWD Vibe.

The 1.8L engine for 2008 should be more efficient and more powerful than the competition! Honda's 1.8L has 140hp! Although I like the functionality of this vibe better.

The vibe and the matrix both are fugly. The vibe reminds me of the Nissan Quest cuz of the front end adn some mix with the Caliber
