On looks alone, who wins the beauty contest? Camry or new Accord?
Sorry if we're shallow, but looks REALLY matter to us.
In our opinion, if a car or truck does not look good, it's hard to capture our attention no matter how good it is.
Maybe it's because we're so spoiled living here in Southern California where EVERYTHING is beautiful.
So the Spies need to know...Who wins the beauty contest?
The new Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry?
Remember, we want your answer based on looks only...and tell us your choice for the best exterior AND interior.
I'll wait to see some posts before I chime in with my choices...

Exterior, for me, goes to the Honda. There's something about it... no matter how aggressive a bodykit Toyota puts on the Camry SE, the Accord will always be more fun, and it looks it.
Interior? Very, very close. You show mis-matched photos here, though; you should show the Accord interior with wood grain. To me, its wood and plastics look higher quality than the Camry's, but the Toyota's overall layout is more elegant. I can't really choose on the inside. They're leaps and bounds better than the previous gen models.

Isn't this a little premature? Many cars look much better in person than in photos, and I've found that to be the case with Hondas quite often. This vote should wait until the Accords hit the showroom, so both cars can be evaluated based on first hand looks, rather than one being based on that and the other on photos.

Why is this question being asked? Toyota and Lexus are design leaders in their respective classes. The Camry is a design legend. Always at the forefront of groundbreaking design. The Accord looks like a rice machine.

david989...
Hmmm... seems like you're a bit out of touch with current events, not to mention recent history. The Accord has won more awards and comparisons than just about anyone can count. One example... in a recent comparison test, the 2007 Accord (a 5 year old "lame duck" model in the last year of its generation) won a 6 car comparison in Car and Driver magazine. And where did the much anticipated all-new Camry land? 5th place, after Accord, Altima, Optima and Aura. The only car the Camry beat was Sebring. And what did they have to say about the Camry's so-called "superb interior construction"? A few comments...
"Toyota sedans have never throbbed with driving passion, but at least they could boast of unimpeachable quality. This Camry was impeachable. A few trim pieces hung loose. Some dash panels didn’t match up. The rear-seat armrest cup holder fell out with only the slightest persuasion, leaving behind a ragged hole in the fabric."
And just to show how far the Camry has slipped, here's what they said about the Kia Optima:
"Tops the Toyota’s fit and finish... The Camry interior styling and fit and finish get eights, even from the East German judge, but the Kia’s pull solid nines."
The Accord's fit and finish also rated a 9. And for the record, in most reviews and comparisons, the Accord's interior is rated as being near or at the top every time.
Opinions vary, and the 2007 Camry just edged out the 2007 Accord in a 4 car Edmunds comparison. But the 2007 Accord was named as Consumer Report's best family sedan, just edging out the 2007 Camry. The Accord also has been on Car and Driver's 10 Best Car list a record number of times. The Camry has been notable by its absence from that list. On the other hand, the Camry was Motor Trend's 2007 Car of the Year. However, in a first drive of the 2008 Accord EX and comparison to the Camry SE, the MT editor chose the Accord over the Camry, again by a narrow margin. So each car has its share of wins. But if you think that the Accord hasn't won more than its share of awards and comparisons, that it hasn't gotten accolade after accolade for class leading design and superb interior construction, and that it isn't at the very least the equal of the Camry in those regards, you're very much mistaken.

Yes the last time I rode in a Camry I noticed it was made up of 38 hides of leather as opposed to Rolls's 37 and the wood was from the same branch, the RR only was from the same tree.

Well, pardon me if I remain a bit skeptical of a comment like that out of a Lexus magazine, especially since a Rolls Royce interior doesn't even remotely resemble a Camry's. And wouldn't you think that if RR was going to look at a car in the Toyota family for inspiration for one of the most luxurious interiors available in any automobile, they'd benchmark the Lexus LS which follows a similar design philosophy, but is much more luxurious? Sounds like an automotive "urban legend" to me... more than a bit hard to swallow.
But even if it's true, it's one opinion. Where do you get off "correcting" someone else's opinion just because it's different from yours? If you had just said "bad joke, sorry", that would be it, but then you come up with the questionably cited Rolls Royce comment to rationalize it? Sorry, doesn't wash at all.

Honda Accord all the way, inside and out. I also believe the Honda has superior engineering to the Toyota. The Toyota has always been just a little too generic for me. The appeal level is way too broad. Everyone from young families to retired Sun City slickers drive Camrys. Good for Toyota but not my style. A Camry is about as exciting to buy and use as a refridgerator.

The honda has a more young derived look and feel to it, where-as the camry has always appealed to a slightly older crowd, and the camry still has that look to it but is getting a little edge to its models. The On board computers are both posotives for both cars, although a the hondas seems too hidden. The Gear knob on the accord seems a little easier to manuever than the camry's. they are both non appealing cars.

Well, for the price you pay to get into a loaded Camcord, you could get a used, well-maintained BMW 330i or even a new A4 2.0T with a few options. That's why I wouldn't do this, but if practicality was the only criteria, they make sense.

S4... you do know the Accord and Camry are mid-sized vehicles, while the 3-Series and A4 are compacts. This makes for a big difference in width, rear seat room, and trunk, which is why people like me gravitate to these cars, for family.
We totally get the cache and driving fun of a used luxury-sport-compact and aren't overlooking anything choosing a new family sedan instead.

Notice my last sentence.
However, the size difference is not dramatic; the A4 and 3er are not "compact." They are something of in-betweens, with large trunks, and the new A4 will probably have adequate leg room.
I am just saying what I would do.

I used to sell Audis and BMWs. We often would get people cross shopping a new Accord to a used 3 series or A4. It is a real world alternative.

Look, guys, I know you mean well trying to save "Camcord" buyers from their lives of drudgery.
However, you're both off base... and off-topic as well.
if you're shopping an Accord, you need space. Of course, a lot of people are willing to be talked into a BMW or an Audi, even if it's too cramped for their needs. That doesn't make you guys helpful. It just makes shoppers confused.
The E46 BMW and the current-gen A4 ARE sport-compacts. It's not an adjective, it's a classification. The Accord and Camry ARE mid-size. There is a world of difference in these 2 styles of car. Like coupe and sedan.
The BMW/Audi were not built for adults to sit in the back seat very long. They don't accommodate rear-facing car seats well either. Accord and Camry do.
Besides space, the numbers just don't add up either.
We bought our new '06 Accord for $25.5 ... "loaded" with nav.
E46 BMW's at that price:
-50,000 mile 2002 330i
-35,000 mile 2004 325i
A4's at that price:
-30,000 mile 2005 A4 1.8T
-40,000 mile 2005 A4 3.2
Wow, those are great choices vs. a new car with low maintenance that you can drive for 10 years.
Our Accord also has a 244 V6. It's not a sports car, but it can pass easily on the freeway. The cars you two salesmen are suggesting have 170 hp, 180 hp and the chart-topping 220 hp... if I'm willing to buy a car with 50,000 miles on it.
You guys are obviously enthusiasts. That's great. But please respect people who buy Accords and Camrys. They're getting the car they need and can afford. And... don't call them "Camcords." It's just derogatory.

Great job of outlining the very valid reasons to consider a Camry or Accord in lieu of a used sport compact. As nice as the sport compacts are, they fall more than just a little short of the functionality of a mid-sized family car in a number of areas.
And also, thanks for pointing out the negative and derogatory nature of the term "Camcord". I've always considered that term to be annoying and disrespectful. Surely 2 cars that account for sales upwards of 800,000 units a year, garner some of the most intense customer loyalty of any cars on the market, rank at the top of their class year after year and win awards galore warrant enough respect to be mentioned individually. I'm sure that fans of the biggest selling German sport/luxury brands might bristle if someone uncermoniously lumped them together as something like "BMercs". ;)

Exterior: Camry.
The Camry exterior is fresher and more youthful especially with the SE sport kit.
The Accord looks too much like the Hyundai Sonata.
Honda's Japanese design team has really flubbed quite a few exterior designs (Ridgeline, Element, RL, etc.) compared to the gorgeous California inspired Calty creations made for Toyota (FJ, Camry, Highlander, Tundra, etc.). The only Honda exterior design we currently think is leading edge is the Civic.
Interior: Accord
On the inside however, we prefer the new Accord because it looks more youthful and BMW like compared to the more conservative Camry inards.
Although that manual handbrake on the console has GOT to go...turn your watches back 15 years with that thing!

"The Camry exterior is fresher and more youthful"
I completely disagree. In my mind, the Camry is still a car for older people. My 80-year-old mother has one. No SE bodykit will change that. On the other hand, in these pictures, the Accord looks far sportier and more coherent. More European, if you will.

I agree with S4 completely. The Accord's side view in particular is much more upscale, aggressive and exciting than the Camry's. From that view more than any other, it's the Camry that looks like the Sonata, with a near identical roofline (with Camry having very slightly thicker C-pillars) and a similar "parallel to the ground" rake (or lack thereof). That makes the Camry (as well as the Sonata) look static and unexciting. With its rakish character lines and sculpting, the Accord looks like it's moving even when standing still. Much more like a sports sedan than the Camry.
Since the Sonata's front end is a virtual carbon copy of the front end of the 1998-2000 Accord, is it any wonder that there's a resemblance to this Accord as well? It's not because Honda copied Hyundai... it's because Honda is using its styling equity and now is bumping up against Hyundai's Accord mimicry.
So, given the Camry's ugly grille zit, its boring side profile, Bangle butt and more similarities to the Sonata than its fans are willing to admit, I'll pass, thank you.
This whole "looks like a Sonata" thing makes the "gorgeous Highlander" comment even more comical than it would be otherwise. When I first saw the side view of the 2008 Highlander, I thought it was a big Santa Fe. Gorgeous isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe it.

My personal vote goes to the Honda Accord for both, the interior and the exterior. The Camry really has not grown on me since its introduction...to me it looks somewhat unfinished and a bit of a kit car in the front and they really did not do an overall great job with the exterior......the interior is good.....I like it....but the Accord interior is more complete!!Just better!! I like the BMW type dashboard navigation and I like the overall layout.
One disappointment with the Accord...they could have kept the SH-AWD as an option in some trim levels for extra sportiness and that would have allowed it to handle better and maybe take some sales away from the A4 / 3 Series (328), etc. with a price tag of a few thousand less and it would be good value.

Sure it's not meant to be a sports car but that is my personal preference when looking at any car, it must be sporty looking... and preferably have a contemporary design. Exterior - The Camry is an attractive enough family car, but nobody will mistake it for anything else. The styling lacks excitement - its overall lines are very flat with no sense of energy. The Accord is much more aggressive and sporty looking (and BTW, has a rear that looks NOTHING like a Saturn). So my exterior vote goes to Accord.
Interior - Again, Camry's is fairly attractive, but kind of dated looking - that general style of center control panel was all the rage in the late '90s and early '00s. Some materials are kind of cheap looking, too, particularly the overabundance of fake brushed aluminum.
Accord's dashboard is more contemporary, with design components in common with some BMW and Mercedes models, which gives it a more upscale look. Lots of buttons in the center may take some getting used to, and materials can't be commented on until we see them first hand. As long as they stick with comparable or better quality as compared to the previous generation, they should be fine. So my interior vote also goes to Accord.

I will take the Accors's interior and the Camry's exterior as my top pics. The new Accord looks boring in its sedan form but sexy in coupe form.

I will have to say Camry is my favorite. Always liked the Honda, but something happened this year. I dont know what!

Exterior...thumbs up for the Accord! Finally more original styling. Camry however hasnt reached that point in my opinion. The wrap around crease at the beltline on the Accord gives it some energy that it needed. Seems a nice balance of conservative, yet interesting styling.
Interior... the Accord looks a bit busy, but knowing Honda im sure its ergonomics will turn out to be just fine.
