Only one customer returned a car during GM’s 60-day guarantee program

launched recently has had only one return so far, according to GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz. Since the program began, approximately 150,000 GM vehicles were sold, of which, only a little more than 100 customers opted for a 60-day money-back guarantee.

GM gives a $500 cash incentive to those who are sure of their purchase and decide not to take advantage of this program, says Autonews. During a recent media event, Lutz disclosed that the lone car return was by a man who had bought a Chevrolet Corvette with a manual transmission “by mistake.”

That's because the "program" was BOGUS and only 100 people chose it because GM offered 500 bucks to NOT choose "the program" therefore waiving the right to bring back the Garbage Motors mobile. This is predatory marketing and should be illegal to manipulate consumers.

What is bad about offering a $500 incentive? From the customer's perspective it means that they get an extra $500 bonus if they like/want to keep the car.

"Garbage Motors" I mean really. GM is producing some fine vehicles right now and they should be given credit for it. I am sure your favorite Sport team loses a game or more but you still cheer them on so that when they do win you dont look a jackass. It is not predatory marketing at all. To most people and extra $500 off the car that they have choose to buy color, motor, model, and accessories is better than a 60 day guarantee. Most people usually test drive the vehicle and spend some time before they buy it. So 60 days and then bringing it back seems very minute when compared to $500.

Fine Vehicles?
Malibu = Not as good as Honda Accord
Aveo = not as good as anything worst car in class for safety
Colbolt = Not as good as a kia forte or Toyota Corolla
Camaro = Does not handle as well as a Mustang, one race driver called it a pig! Is not as nice as an Infiniti G37 and has an interior worse then the old C5 Corvette
Corvette= a 50-100,000 sports car not as nice as a Porsche or Nissan GTR
Cadillac CTS has issues with nav system and rattles
Pontiac = Dead
Saturn = Dead

Trucks
Silverado not as refined as F-150 or Dodge Ram in fact it's the WORST pickup in it's class and still has standard drum brakes in the rear where Ford and dodge offer Disks.
Suburban/Tahoe future is canceled

$500x100 = 50K.
With 1 person returning a vehicle, GM makes money from the whole deal.
Not a bad program, marketing-wise as well.
However, still need to go back to basics. Take care of reliability first.
Others are just gimmicks.

Reliability sells. Please refer to Honda/Toyota.

The 60 day return policy is actually backed by an insurance company that has made the rules therin to satisfy themselves. No doubt, the $500 that would be otherwise given to the customer as an incentive goes straight to the insurance company.

Veyron1001 You never tire of being wrong, and yes todays Opel is a GM car it was designed and developed by GM and weplan on retianing a 35% stake when we DO sell part of Opel.
