PORSCHE, BMW, or AUDI?
There is lots of reviews about these suv's. Some have chosen one, some another. But the question still remains, which one in your opinion should be placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd? counting overall performance, luxury, capacity and the features of what an suv stands for. also please state the reason for your choices

i chose audi beacause it has good characteristics all combined in 1 suv - i mean cargo space, room for 7, luxury, performance and many electronic gadgets. the bmw however i feel is mostly concetrated on sportiness as porsche on pure performance

Same for me, I am thinking of buying an SUV. And Audi wins hands down. Their 4.3 TDi does 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds. The BMW 4.8 X5 does 0-60mph in 6.4 and the Cayenne S is the same as the X5 to 60mph. The Audi is a little bit faster, but the main thing, it is bigger and also more fuel efficient and torquier engine for towing.

With the amazing S-Line kit, the whole car is painted, down to the exhaust valance. It's the most significant S-Line package I've ever seen- and it really works wonders for the Q7. Were I looking at them, I'd get a Q7 4.2 S-Line in dark blue over black... no doubt.

1. BMW - It just looks so much better than the other two...
2. Audi - I don't like the looks of it, I think it looks like a bus, but it is a good SUV (not a good car, but a good SUV) and you get alot for your money
3. Porsche - It is simply the second ugliest SUV (the Aztek still holds the number one spot).

I have to pick Q7, Cayenne ,and X5 in that order. Audi wins because it has the best drive system and the drive system is the very essence of an SUV. The Cayenne looks better than the X5 but the X5 has a nice in-line 6 engine. The automatic transmission is overpriced on the Cayenne. My picking the Cayenne over the X5 is probably an emotional decision but the Q7 clearly shines above the rest. Those of you who pine for an ML can forget it as the seats in that vehicle are uncomfortably hard.

For me, since I OWN the vehicle in question, the 2007 BMW X5. I Didn't consider the Q7, because it was over 10in too long, and the Cayenne wasn't out yet.
BTW I don't have the 3rd row in my X5.

3rd place to Cayenne because I want Porsche penalized for building an SUV. I haven't driven the other makers, but the Cayenne is very typical in that it is a huge, heavy vehicle with about the same interior size as my 3 series. Not fun to drive, either, so what's the point? I call that a dumb waste of production line resources in Zuffenhausen. Please don't buy any more!

I'm surprised the ML is not on this list. The new one is much improved and it has all the luxury equipment one needs for an SUV. Performance is there as well with improvements since the last gen.
Anyways here is my take:
Audi Q7 - If I wanted a contemporary look for an SUV as well as a fine finished interior then I would go for the Audi.
BMW X5 - If I want an all around great sport utility for the urban lifestyle then the X5 has all the credentials. It has luxury as well as a bit of sportiness to it.
Porsche - In my opinion why buy a Porsche when it's not a real Porsche. Porsche is a sports/super-car maker not a SUV manufacturer. All they did was slap on a Porsche body and interior on a VW. Clearly there are better SUV's in the market than the Cayenne. I would have gone with the X5,Q7,& ML but too bad it wasn't listed on this comparison.
But since it is a 1 2 3 comparison my choices would be the only result in a top 2.. 1st place : X5 & Q7. 2nd place : Cayenne.

This is an easy one for me personally; the X5's chiseled look is much more striking & interesting to me than the roundness of the Audi & Porsche. This also is one case where I prefer the interior of the Bimmer to the Audi. Finally the X5 drives the most like a car & I personally don't need the rear seats, so I'd take the X5 & the Cayenne second.
Though I’d never buy a top-end luxury S.U.V., I’d be to scared to do S.U.V. things to it so my Grand Cherokee does just fine.

Most of these luxury SUV's aren't true SUV's for the off road. Their more for urban usage. The Landcruiser , G-Wagon, Range Rover those are more for the off road. The X5/Q7/& Audi seem to be more for the wealthy who just wants an SUV for the hell of own one.
I had a Range Rover Sport previously and it was luxurious no doubt. However I found myself worried to take it onto gravel/dirt areas. Now if I had the Land Rover or a Landcruiser that fear would go out the window.

I have done this comparo and unlike you people put my money on the line...Porsche the clear victor. You could pay the same price for the Audi 4.2 and receive some awesome features like a useless 3rd row and some wood trim for the elder set. the reality is the Audi only makes sense if you buy the V6 and that beast is as anemic as a Ford Five Hundred. Audi clearly went for look over feel and it is crystal clear on a back-2-back drive. Audi - out. Now onto the BMW, the other 'tuetonic' feel which although drives very well has many things going for it like looking exactly like the first one and also offering a useless 3rd row. So you get the distingushed appeal of looking like everyone else and suffering through iDrive during your ownership experience. Ah, yes the final thing, when you get your Porchse serviced you are greeted and treated like someone special - you do not pull in to the dealer and waity behind your A3 guy who has 'tricked' out their ride, nor do you wait beside the guy who is clinging to his 318ti and hoping the badhe will hold that vehicle together. Nope, at this level of vehicle there are intangibles that come into play as well - and they really impact an actual decision.

1st- Cayenne-- dont get me wrong. I know it is not a "true" Porsche. But I have driven it and its competitors, and believe me: the onroad and offroad performances are simply amazing. And if it sells so well, it's great: more income for building amazing sports cars! 2nd: Q7.. amazing looks, performance, and brand! 3rd: X5: Great car, great brand also. If it attract the babes then the ride comfort will drive the 'babes' away. What kind of girl wants to cruise in a nice car that is not comfortable? They like the quiet and spacious luxurious interiors. The Cayenne is a 'real' Porsche jacked up on a VW platform.

Audi are good, but clearly Mercedes will smash them and beat them in everything for a bit more in price (fair enough). BMW beats Audi obviously. Okay, i'll give you reasons. The Audi Q7 is like the Lexus LS, only look good if you have oversized 5 spoke wheels. The A8 really is an overpriced A6, the A6 is an overpriced A4 and the A4 is junk compared to 3-series and c-class. Lexus doesn't match up at all to BMW merc or Audi only the RX, LS and GS do. The A3 looks like my toaster. Lexus is failing same with Audi because it is basically a rebadged Volkswagen thats drove through a Mercedes-Benz/BMW manufacturing plant and stolen some of the features.

I agree with you. Toyota and lexus fans do that, but Audi i think come close. You guys (Audi fans) keep saying Audi is the best. I like BMW but at least I can admit that Mercedes is way better. But you guys think that Audi does everything! Each Audi is always a rip-off Volkswagen as i said "Audi because it is basically a rebadged Volkswagen that drove through a Mercedes-Benz/BMW maufacturing plant and stolen some of the features". Every Audi is just an optioned out version of the one before it.. A3<A4>A5>TT>Q7>A8>some other pointless model Audi will make in the near future that will never beat competitors and will probably so junk that It is discontinued.

Unlike actual reviews, where the vehicles are closely compared by performance, quality, and price, it seems that there are only two factors that matter to posters on this site:
1) "My favorite brand is ... "
2) "I like the sheetmetal on this ... "
This whole blog, therefore, is an utter waste of time. Until you actually drive all vehicles in the comparison or have some real data to share, please shut up. Hold your tongue if -gasp- another car company besides your favorite comes out with a great car. Don't pounce on the styling of whatever vehicle you don't like, because there's a very good chance that the only view of that vehicle you will ever see is its taillights as it leaves you in the dust. You'd think that people who could afford these vehicles would be intelligent enough to properly evaluate a car...

I have 3 BMWs in my garage. I recently saw the Audi SUV in the flesh, and spent some time checking it out. Of the three, BMW, Porsche, and Audi SUVs, the Audi is the best executed. It has loads of usable space (unlike the BMW), and an incredible attention to useful detail (unlike BMW and Porsche).
It seems like BMW and Porsche were fixated on creating an SUB that drives like a car, while Audi created a really good all-around package. Kudos, Audi. You keep surprising me. If I had to get a new car today, it would likely be an Audi. And that's from a guy who has 3 BMWs, and likes them all.
