Paris Autoshow to Unveil the Mercedes AMG CL 63
Mercedes-AMG is unveiling the range-topping version of the new luxury coupé, the CL 63 AMG. Under the bonnet is an AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine that was devel-oped independently and delivers a maximum output of 386 kW/525 hp and 630 Ne-wton metres of peak torque for guaranteed scintillating performance. A glance at the high-tech specification of this exceptional two-door coupé emphatically under-lines its exclusive status: in addition to the unmistakable AMG bodystyling and the AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control, the AMG high-perfor-mance braking system is also fitted as standard. PRE-SAFE®, the anticipatory occupant protection system, is included too and may be supplemented by the addition of both the innovative new PRE-SAFE® Brake and DISTRONIC PLUS as an option.

The CL 63 AMG represents the highlight of Mercedes-AMG's 2006 model initia-tive so far, which has encompassed ten brand new high-performance AMG models to date. At the heart of the eight-cylinder flagship model is the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine.

From its displacement of 6208 cc, the high-revving, naturally aspirated drive unit musters up 386 kW/525 hp at 6800 rpm and generates its peak torque of 630 Ne-wton metres at 5200 rpm. This gives the AMG powerpack a higher power-to-swept-volume and torque ratio than any other naturally aspirated series-produced eight-cylinder engine in the world. The CL 63 AMG is propelled from 0-100 in just 4.6 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.

What else is new for MBz or BMW for that matter. Take a brand new car, put on a body kit with different wheels and plop in a different engine. If it were a different car altogether, then it would be more interesting. This whole AMG or M thing is overrated and overpriced. My 2 cents.

The navigational display/dashboard looks very similar to the layout of the BMW's flagship 7 series.

Note to SSP350, AMG "ARE" in-house MB tuners!! If it were an altogether different car, then they wouldn't call it a "CL" , that's the whole point, but I guess this is not obvious to everyone..... And note to Bavarian, yes the cockpit managment system is similar. You know what else is similar? It also has 4 wheels and a steering aparatus, hmmmmmm..... must have copied that too.........

mmeecc - I guess someone is a bit touchy with a comment being made on how MB designed the interior of the CL/S Class with that of the BMW 7-Series.

Too bad for you, it's true.

Not at all Mark, thanks for noticing ;) I'm just commenting on a redundant remark that has no end and no point. Many things were first introduced in MB and Audi, Lexus, BMW and so on..... The fact that eventually, some other car company will do something similar is highly likely, the variables are not infinite. If you've used the BMW I-Drive and MB Comand systems like I have, you'll see that they are indeed very different. The only similarity is the center controller. Eventually, someone will copy or try to improve on the innovative MB PRE-SAFE System, and I sincerely hope the MB boys don't start complaining about how another company copied them. That's innovation and how the automotive world keeps on going forward.

This might be my next car!

Not the AMG version, but a nicely spec'd CL500. I am dead serious, I love it. The new CL makes the old one look kind of boring - and that was a pretty classy car.

Suwwweet. It looks like an S class and a CLS got together, and that's not a bad thing. Both classy and sporty; a tough combination to pull off gracefully, and M-B nailed it.

Thank you for using paragraph breaks, 009.

wow i think this car is beautiful and fast as hell. it could use a little less dramatic styling on the front end imo, but is stunning as is. is that new PRE-SAFE system the one that moves the seats, rolls up the windows, and pre-tensions the seat belts before a collision? or is this something different?

525 hp is the most powerful version of the AMG 6.3 liter V8 to date. I still haven't exactly warmed up to the styling.

Actually, the RenaultSport Clio 197 has a working rear diffuser, and that has been on sale for a couple of months already.
