Paris Hilton gets herself a Yukon Hybrid for 27th birthday
The last time we mention Paris Hilton on eGMCarTech, she was looking to go green to do her part for the environment.

“I changed all the light bulbs to energy-safe light bulbs and I’m buying a hybrid car right now,” said Paris Hilton. “Little things that people can do every day to make a huge difference,” she said.

And she is doing just that. Paris has ordered herself a brand new GMC Yukon Hybrid for her 27th birthday. Here was Paris said in a short interview with E! News at her ’80s themed party.

Rupe, here in Southern California big SUV's are sold in the hundreds of thousands.

They're very common :-)

She still has themed parties?

On another note, Paris Hilton is a ditz that gets way too much media attention. Saving the environment one Yukon(XL?) at a time.

Only the Yukon's have the two-mode system, not the XL's.

I fail to see how a Lexus LS600h or Lexus RX400h is environmentally friendly. These are by default extremely heavy cars with a powerful gasoline motor upfront, and no diesel option. Now add the hybrid motor and batteries and you have yourself a really overweight car that once outside the urban environment will rely on its overpowered gasoline engine for movement. In Europe the LS600h and RX400h are not recommended because of so-called great fuel economy, which they don't achieve.

"These are by default extremely heavy cars with a powerful gasoline motor upfront, and no diesel option"

What the hell does a diesel option have anything to do with this. You don't need a diesel to be environmentally friendly. To begin with diesels aren't that safe for the environment.

"Yes I really think she should have gone for a Lexus LS600 which is the ultimate environmentaly friendly car"

In no way shape or form will a V8 ever be considered the most environmentally friendly car.

Fuel economy is not the only benefit to having a hybrid. Yes hybrid technology is still fairly new and growing but it will not be the technology of the future it's more of temporary fix until newer technologies are available and affordable. But to say hybrids are not good or are worse than diesels is just absurd. Diesels are not the anwer, their not even a temporary fix. The technology has been around for decades and nothing can be done with it.

Zorbeeze,

You have just demonstrated your ignorance to the issue. You claim diesels have been around for decades and "nothing can be done with this technology". First of all, diesel is a fuel, not a technology. A diesel engine, that's technology. Look at the vast improvements in this field over the last decade. This contradicts your statement.

Second, Lexus hybrids in general achieve poor fuel economy outside of urban environments because they're overweight and overpowered. There is no real fuel economy benefit to owning a hybrid Lexus, especially in Europe where our driving styles and situations make hybrids extremely unpractical.

Lastly, a diesel-hybrid will be more efficient given the efficient nature of diesel engines, even if they have to haul around more weight. A gasoline-hybrid pitted against a comparable diesel-hybrid would show the diesel-hybrid getting the better fuel economy by a wide margin.

Particulate filters, cleaner diesel fuel and improved combustion chamber design are all factors in making diesel engines more efficient and cleaner in regards to fuel economy and emissions.

"First of all, diesel is a fuel, not a technology. A diesel engine, that's technology."
My mistake if i was not clear enough for you.

"Look at the vast improvements in this field over the last decade. This contradicts your statement."
Yes their have been improvements but for something thats been around for so long the improvements are not enough. There's no future there.

"Lexus hybrids in general achieve poor fuel economy outside of urban environments because they're overweight and overpowered."
The Prius is overweight and overpowered? Too begin with every car nowadays is overweight and the majority of cars are overpowered. Secondly, that's the orad Lexus too with their hybrids, you can easily give them less power and sacrifice certain performance criteria but they chose not too. Most people say that was a wrong move and i agree with them. Third, the benfits provided by hybrids over diesels is much more than just looking at mpg. Do some research on hybrids, they were never mean to just decrease mpg figures.

"especially in Europe where our driving styles and situations make hybrids extremely unpractical"
That's a shitload of BS you just spitted out. I live in europe half the year so don't give me that crap about driving habits. The average north merican drives faster and is harder on the car than the europeans. The majority of the times in europe you can't even go faster than 50mph do to the tiny roads. In NA people do 60 on regular roads on a regular basis. The only reason diesels are so popular in europe is do to the extremely high cost of gasoline in all of europe when compared to Canada or the States.

"A gasoline-hybrid pitted against a comparable diesel-hybrid would show the diesel-hybrid getting the better fuel economy by a wide margin."
Again fuel economy is not the only thing you should be looking at, get your head out the gutter.

Didnt she get her license suspended? I think she likes it to be driven around in. Maybe she wants a low key vehicle which doesnt scream "celebrity" so she can sneak out of clubs high and drunk without drawing too much attention. Sha prob also thought it was cute to get something "green" after all California is all over the word.

Good car for her security detail, big safe and actually a really great truck. I don't know if any of you have ever actually driven one of these full sizers from GM. They are acutally really cool, great ride, amazing sounding V8, big comfy seats. Just the gas mileage sucks, too bad...

Yea. They are pretty good, and still more appealing then the competitors. If only gas was still 2 bucks a gallon, I would consider another one.
