Paris Preview: Renault Nepta gull-wing cabriolet concept
Renault has pulled the wraps off its Paris stunner called the Nepta Concept – a four-seat convertible with a pair of motor-driven gull-wing doors. Gull-wing doors on a convertible? The doors pivot on an aluminum strip running down the center of the car's hood and a point immediately behind the rear seats, and they reveal the concept's 420-hp, 3.5-liter V6 hooked up to a seven-speed automatic when open.

The overall shape of the Nepta is very clean and simple, with an expressive face up front and tapered rear that hangs far out over the rear wheels. A nice anodized aluminum accent strip rings the lower part of the vehicle and nicely highlights the car's length.

Taillights make it look like an old American convertible (kind of like the look of the Thunderbird you know, does anyone else think it looks like that?), but it does look good though.

Will,

The term 'concept car' springs to mind.

I just spoke to the Renault Design team, and they apologise to all the conservative Americans who unfortunately had to look at this car.

They told me:

"Dear Matthew,

In light of some of the negative reaction from the American public, we will strive to 'tone down' and replace new and exciting innovations with generic and existing designs for our next range of concept cars. In no way do we wish to offend people with flair, passion and the desire to try new things, regardless of their practicality.

Regards,

Renault Design"
