Pass The Crack Pipe Please! Lexus Prices The LF-A At $225,000
After three auto show appearances and the occasional spy photo and video from Germany's high-speed Nürburgring test circuit, it's no secret that the Lexus LF-A supercar concept is headed for production. With an estimated 500 horsepower coming from the LF-A's 5.0-liter V10, we didn't expect the Lexus to come cheap, but Inside Line has learned that the car will carry a price tag over $200,000.
Ben Mitchell, corporate product planning manager for Lexus, confirmed that the price of the carbon-fiber supercar "will begin with a two." And another Lexus source in Japan told Inside Line the price may be as high as $225,000

I have an idea. Let's wait until the car gets produced and then judge its worth based on the car itself. Maybe it will be worth every last cent and then some.

for this price, You could have a GT-R and GT-R spec V. Then you would have to figure just how much you want to whip the LF-A's but. Do I want to do it by 3 seconds or 5 seconds? I pick two GT-R's over this anyday!

the LF-A beat out both a Lambo and an Aston Martin at the recent race at Nurburgring.
RAN THEM INTO the ground! both were DNFs, while the lexus claimed 1st in the class.

I'm using the IS-F as a benchmark for entering a segment by Lexus.
An excellent attempt, but still 4th out of 4 cars in the segment.
HOWEVER, the IS-F is more of a skunkworks car than the LF-A, so I hope the LF-A does better.
Obviously at $225k it needs to be the best. I think Lexus realizes that.

Toyota has mentioned there has been a decline in their overall quality level of late, but I don't think they have ever, nor would ever say reliability is not a big factor. I can't imagine any car company saying that.
And although "lowly Buick" and Lexus score comparitively, that's not as big of deal as Benz/Bimmer/Audi all placing below the Buick/Lexus rank is it?

thats absolutely correct. Luxury brands are modified for better high quality parts that will last longer. Even when building the cars at the plants the builder are more qualified than a non-luxury brand. Could you imagine the same type of builder build chevy vs Cadillac, or BMW vs Mini Coooper, or BMW vs. Rolls Royce, or VW vs. Audi, Mercedes vs.Maybach, or Maxima vs G35? And the answer to all these is no.
Luxury cars are build better and will last longer than a non-luxury car.

Lexus is just an over priced, over rated toyota that wants to keep up with the big boys. Every single innovation that has been done that dramatically put a dent in the auto industry has been done by europe. Lexus is for people that think they are driving all the cars above in that list. PERIOD. If you say it's a reliable car, then ok. So is a honda, minus the $200,000. Lexus is just a sheep in wolves clothing. Technologically it has achieved NOTHING. making your lights active with steering is not that big of a deal. AND, a few months ago I had heard a lexus commercial on the radio saying "doctors say you should get your heart rate up for good health, blah blah blah... so visit your lexus dealer". BMW had that same commercial when the e60 5 series came out YEARS ago. Not only does lexus bite off bmw's but they also help themselves to copying commercials. SAVE YOUR MONEY

True however they did it in a country that values posh over real performance gains. This is a whole nother animal here though. So far in every category Lexus competes in where performance is concerned overall they place at the bottom of the pack.
This does not mean they haven't targeted an untapped market here. If that is so, then they may teach us all a lesson.

TheBoss- LOL you think you have caught me there. My predictions (and they were VERY close) were for straight line performance only. As you are aware there is more than one aspect to consider and I was predicting theoretical 0-60 1/4 times.
You have to consider cornering, braking, and transient response. You can excel in a few of those and I dare say you may even be able to excel in all static tests, but when it goes on the track how well they all work together is the ultimate test. This is where many fail. They focus on the static tests not the overall package.

Agent 009, being a super Lexus hater aside, for that price point the LF-A really is going to have to deliver. I don't think they would release the car otherwise though.

answer- I no longer own a Lexus, but I have before. Personally they are great cars but the disadvantages to me outweigh their strong points. Oddly enough the only car in the last 20 years that have left me dead on the side of the road was a Lexus.
I would say if I was short term on these cars (IE: 4 years or less), they still would be considered, for a number of reasons. However personally for me only, they have yet released anything that sways me to the "dark side". My lack of affinity for the brand has been an acquired taste.

Just my opinion but...
I'm sorry, but first of all, how many Lexus enthusiasts are there out there? Secondly, how many Toyota enthusiasts are there out there? Thirdly, even if there are a ton (which I doubt there are) they most likely will not have that kind of coin to drop on a car. Fourthly, how many people are gonna spend that kind of money on a Lexus even if they are not a Lexus enthusiast? Lastly, it costs well more than the R8, and probably more than the R8 V-10 will when it comes out, so why wouldn't you get that, or even a Ferrari. Can you imagine sitting at a light and an F430 pulls up next to you and laughs because you could have had his car, but instead you are in a stupid Lexus? I would just leave it to the professional car companies that have been making supercars for years now!

Silver1- On Toyota's Corporate blog here is just the first response to Toyota/Lexus quality issues:
The brand with the worst score, by the way, had 170 problems per 100 vehicles, or 1.7 problems per vehicle. So from best to worst, that’s a difference of just 0.79 problems per vehicle for the first three months of ownership. This range has decreased dramatically during the last five years or so; most carmakers are doing a great job of delivering a trouble-free vehicle at the point of sale.

If it can walk the walk with other cars for that price, then what is the problem? How can you fail or succeed if you never try?! (meaing, try to expand your market)
I think it works in reverse, though, when a luxury make tries to go down-market. People might have the impression that it dilutes the brand.
All you "imposter" and "just a Toyota" name callers should just grow up.

meanwhile, as Lexus reaches ever further upmarket (there were naysayers too, over the $110k ls600hl which sold at 3x early projections), both bmw and mb are slumming DOWNmarket, diluting their brands with 1- and A-series!
lexus has snuck past mb in prestige, trailing only porsche and bmw. how much longer before it passes those two as well?
