Peugeot Builds 50 Millionth Peugeot Car
A future rich in innovation

Peugeot’s history has seen many innovations, from the first four-cylinder engine on the Type 39 in 1902, to the latest petrol engines developed through the co-operation between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the BMW Group. Peugeot was also the first manufacturer to introduce a Diesel Particulate Emission Filter as standard on the 607 in 2000. This technology can now be found on more than 1.8 million HDi diesel powered Peugeot vehicles around the world. For the future, Peugeot will remain a manufacturer at the cutting edge of technological innovation. From the start of the next decade, Peugeot will be producing vehicles equipped with second-generation Stop & Start systems on a massive scale, as well as vehicles with hybrid technology.

An environmentally-friendly future

Over the years Peugeot has demonstrated its intention to lead by example through its commitment to reducing both greenhouse gas emissions and the environmental footprint of its vehicles. Since 2001, more than 1,100,000 vehicles emitting less than 120g of CO2/km have been registered by Peugeot in Europe. >In 2007, 40% of private cars registered by Peugeot emitted less than 130g of CO2/km, making the manufacturer one of the undisputed leaders in the field of reducing CO2 emissions. Peugeot intends to develop this competitive environmental benefit even further. >It is the only car manufacturer in the world to have a concrete global policy in place regarding CO2 . Furthermore, since 1998 and in addition to all its other activities, Peugeot has been conducting a major reforestation project in Amazonia which, over a 40 year period, aims to help balance out carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

Watch your language kid. This is a professional site not some small blog website where you can rant on. We all know you love Lexus but what's your real reason for hating all the other companies that ISN'T a Toyota? Does your dad drive one so you think it has to be the best?

You've probably never been in a Peugeot and if one day you find out Toyota bought Peugeot I almost guarantee you'll support that company. Before trashing Peugeot you should go see the Toyota Prius. Quit reading reviews, watching YouTube videos, or buy magazines. Go in the real world and drive them. That way at least you can have some thoughts based on experiences.

Ok, I hate to see the smug man behind the 'MichaelTaylor' moniker get the best of otherwise intelligent Autospies readers.

So HEAR ME OUT:

'MichaelTaylor' is not a 'real' person. He is a satire. If you argue with him, you may as well argue to Ali G or Borat. His views and 'opinions' are fictitious, purely for his own entertainment.

Is that so hard to understand? He does a good job of sounding genuine, but honestly that's not hard to do.

People, this is the Internet, and people like him exist as trolls on all forums and blogs, purely to get people riled up.

So ONCE AGAIN (because I'm sick of the meaningless arguments his posts create) Michaeltaylor is not a genuine Lexus fan. He is a impersonator and his comments are PURELY SATIRICAL.

IF you don't know what that word means, look it up.

Well maybe if you would stick your head out of your @$$ and go to Europe and try a Peugeot, you would change your mind....
Well maybe not seeing how you are, but the U.S wishes it could get the cars that peugeot and even Renault offers now in Europe!

That kind of seems like the Chrysler of Europe. Ugly designs, and bad reliability.

FIAT used to have a reputation for terrible reliability as well, but I understand that is no longer the case. Could it be that Peugeot has improved as well?

Peugeot, the second oldest car company in the world, has been a major player in rally races for decades. Peugeot diesel-powered race cars came in 2nd & 3rd at Lemans this year. The car has a reputation in Europe as sort of a French Volvo. That doesn't sound like a company that turns out lots of lemons. Perhaps their poor reputation in this country was due to poor service provided by their dealer network?

FIAT, Renault, Peugeot & Citroen - all makes that didn't maked it in the U.S. -are all sold in the U.K. Can any of our British bloggers fill us in on the reliability reputations of these makes?

Well...reliability isn't a French or an Italian strong point, but it is improving all the time. Most stuff is electrical, and previously there were quality control problems thanks to factories in 'backward' rural areas, but it's better now. Peugeots look good, I think, have a nice flair of design about them, drive reasonably well, have good interior quality and a good range of engines. Citroen are edgier, but have cheaper interiors than Peugeots, but drive better (they are the same company and share platforms but rarely look similar). Renaults are very safe, have a lot of technology in them, have a good design flair, very good interior material usage, have fairly ordinary engines, have a good sporting range (Clio/Twingo/Megane Renaultsport) but right now are concentrating on improving reliability - they want to compete with VW and Honda in the upper end of the 'normal' market. Fiat used to be terrible, but now are better, have good design, ok interior quality, good diesels and some nice petrols. The Fiat 500 is the perfect example of a great Fiat, the Stilo of a bad one (but they don't make that anymore).

Peugeot DOES make the 1.6 turbo engine for BMW's MINI COOPER S....which by the way, has won a few engine awards. Its an awesome little engine.

Anyone rating Peugeot on how their cars were 25 years ago needs a reality check.
25 years ago GM brought out the X-cars and the Chevette was still a big seller. Chrysler had K-cars. You couldn't tell how long the engine of a Japanese car would last because the bodies rusted out so quickly. The Corvette was still running on a platform designed in 1962. Ford offered the Tempo.
These cars were ALL crap by today's standards, making Peugeot just on par for the time.

The truth is, almost any car sold in 2008 is better than any car you could buy in 1998. If you look at the stats, a 2008 Hyundai Sonata has fewer defects than any 1998 Lexus.
ALL cars are amazing nowadays compared to 25 years ago.

The French have a tradition of building cars that can travel down a twisty, bumpy road at high speed in extreme comfort, something that the Japanese cannot come even close to (but Japan's highways are even smoother than American freeways, so its not a requirement in their market).
Peugeot also offer unique styling, rather than bland "bar-of-soap on wheels".
And they have state-of-the-art diesel technology.
Go Peugeot!
