Pictures of cars with fake/disconnected exhaust tips
So, according to some of the AutoSpies members, you are almost sold on the IS-F but are too embarrassed to drive it on the street because of the exhaust tips being disconnected from the outlets of the true exhaust pipes. Let's take a look at some of the other cars that you might also be too embarassed to be seen in.

Take a look at those pictures boy, it's not the same thing. Having a different shape at the end of the muffler is not the same thing with having the end of the muffler NOT connected to anything. You must be blind or something ..

I remember when Lexus fans were bragging that IS-F with stacked exhaust was so "COOL" and "UNIQUE". Most people hated it and since it's fake, it sealed the deal. At least those cars you mentioned looks great.
IS-F is still decent but the rear is awful because of the stacked exhaust. I like IS250/350 rear but IS-F is just too much.

Wait a second... You cant include the Bugatti in this list. There is nothing fake about it. The tip connects fully with the exhaust whether its bigger than the actual diameter of the outlet or not. Besides, anyone who watched the movie discovered within the first minute that the Bugatti actually has TWO MORE exhaust outlets under the car!!
And, at least the R8's exhaust outlets line up with the fake tips, the same cant be said for the ISF

"The Movie" = the youtube video that the Bugatti's exhaust image was captured from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhgSV0w1wLg
"Fake is fake" is not why this article was introduced by XeroK00L. He is plainly using a "tu quoque" argument against people who criticize the fakeness of the Lexus' exhaust. And to that, I say the Lexus exhaust is a one-two punch on fakeness. The R8's fake tip is more or less an extension of the exhaust which is exactly what a tip is. This one simply happens to not make contact with the muffler. The fact that the Lexus' fake tips dont even line up with the exhaust to resemble an extension make it seem like "fakeness overachiever" you could say.
I can only imagine what the car will look like in winter when fake exhausts become oh so much more obvious.

I dont think the tips just fall out without a recall, and i doubt lexus would recall new line-up cars.
as for everything else stated in this article, embarrased to drive a veyron? or r8? are you kidding? your not a p 4/5 owner who could say he's ashamed to drive a veyron, and only for track reasons...?

Most companies have exhaust tips to enlarge the looks, but not every company put out cars with non-aligning/non-functioning exhaust tips.

The IS-F does have two exhaust tips per side... they are just non-aligned and alot smaller.

Honestly... Who really cares?
Exposed exhaust tips are more of an aesthetic enhancement than anything, and as long as these 'stylized' tips don't hinder performance, I really don't mind at all.

You dare compare a Lamborghini Murcielago or a Veyron to an IS-F?
Lets see,
They all have 4 wheels? Yep,
They all have engines? Yep,
They both have disconnected exhausts? Yep!
The only difference is that the Lambo and the Veyron dont need to prove anybody anything in design, prestige, or performance. The IS-F has a lot to prove and shouldnt be so tacky, especially after looking like enough of a rice job as it is. The design team of the IS-F wanted to "intimidate" the Germans with the fake stacked exhausts. Shiver me timbers!

Enthusiast,
I agree with you, all these people are doing is putting words where they weren't. Its ridiculous to compare the exhaust of a Bugatti to that of a Lexus. I lament that Lexus doesn't have that prestige to satisfy the egos of the fanboys. If it did have it people would be paying a million dollars for the IS-F. Dream on
43LE
I never said it gave them a license to do it or not. I dont know what youre debating here either. Read my comment and if you are going to respond do so in a relevant matter. The main point i stated was that they did it to make the car appear more aggressive than it really is with the hope of "intimidating" Your response doesn't even address what I said. Instead it puts words where they weren't.

Ohh believe it that I understood. You just didnt address my topic. The lamborghini and the veyron are ESTABLISHED prestige brands that have a long history of motoring fame, and success. This is Lexus' "first" performance vehicle so IT DOES have a lot to prove against its competitors. AMG and M are also established brands and the fact that their cars will be extremely successful is almost a given.

But the difference is, the R8, LP640 and Veyron (strangely enough all amazing VW Group supercars) have tips that are connected to their exhaust systems. The IS-F's isn't even physically connected. That's the strange thing--having fake exhaust tips is nothing new.
And about the R8 again? Even if the exhaust tips WERE like the IS-F's, that would be forgiven with the engine compartment, which is perhaps the most beautiful I've ever seen. Audi turns it into an art like no other brand. Swathed in carbon fiber, LED lighting, amazing precision, and it really shows the engine off. Lexus hides theirs under an ugly plastic cover.

Wow thx “XeroKool” for pointing that out to me, I had no idea the IS-F's exhaust tips weren't at all connected to the cars real exhaust ports. Now I don't see how you can compare & say it's the same thing as the other cars pictured above, you can't stick your whole hand behind the exhaust tips on those vehicles.
Though I will say the lighting effects in the IS'F's exhaust is pretty neat, you could also consider it to be a cheap after-market look.

But how could you have any of these cars? They, along with the Conti GTC and Porsche 911, are the best cars in the VW family.
And yes, I'm including Porsche because although they aren't technically in the VW Group, they own the damn thing.

I have always been skeptical of Brands like Audi and Lexus, they are reengineered mass produced Toyotas and Volkswagens, using fake exhaust and then have the nerve to say these cars are better than BMWs, maybe Germanut, S4, Chewy etc. like these Pep-Boys modifed cars. Not me,I want the best luxury sport cars on the Market, Give me BMW M POWER (and maybe Mercedes AMG). I am really surprised at Audi being a German made car, confirms my lack of respect for Audi.

it has only two actual exhausts going into the fake--yes fake--quad exhausts. all of the cars shown have the same number of tips and actual exhausts.
so the ISF exhausts tips are fake boys.

you posted the perfect picture. The Audi (and all of the others except the IS) have rear mounted engines with the exhaust pipes exiting in the middle of the rear bumper. Without some space aroudn the actual exhaust pipes, you would get a melted bumper as the hot exhaust would go up and down as the engine worked.
here it is for people that missed it the first time

You keep making comments about Lexus fans being "insecure." You're actions/comments appear no different than the very "Lexus haters" that annoy people here.
The IS-F's exhaust tips are a pure design asthetic meant to differentiate the IS-F from normal IS350s and the other cars in the segment. This whole article is in response to people who ragged on it and claimed that Lexus is the only one who uses fake exhaust tips, no need to read into it too much or to call someone 'insecure' because of it.

You may have a point. I respond to comments here because I am bored and have been doing this for quite a few years now, not out of insecurity. It's the way this website works. We debate each other.
I don't care about the IS's exhaust tips not being connected, but the point is that the exhaust tips on the car did not need to be blown out of proportion by the anti-Lexus crowd. Go ahead and tell me I'm insecure for caring and responding to their comments, but again, it's called an internet forum...

Does it even matter? If a buyer of the IS-F wants it, he's not going to car about the exhaust pipe very much. It still makes the same sound through it whether it's disconnected or not. Basically what I'm saying is that someone who truly wants this car won't care.

not trying to grab at straws here but before any conlcusion can be made about the exhaust, there are a couple questions that need to be answered:
1) camera angle, does it hinder anything that would throw the lineup of the exhaust with the tips?
2) is the exhaust an acutal 1-2-2 design?
3) does the exhaust serve the purpose?
and just an fyi, i believe the LS rear fascia is the same as the IS-F. the exhaust piping doesnt attach to the tip.

This is the first time in a very long time that i have personally insulted anybody;
YOU ARE A COMPLETE IDIOT
Who gives a Flying Toss about Dinan ?
In the R8 the 4 Tips Float just around the end of the 4 Exhaust Pipes so heat is not transferred to the Bumper {Mid Engine} Slight ait intake from rear of tips helps with cooling of tips but you can clearly see that each tip has the end of the Exhaust inside it.
In the ISF you have 1 Exhaust pipe sitting a couple inches away from 2 stacked Tips so that the air is released Inside the rear bumper. they might as well have left it as a Hidden Exhaust system like in the Previous S-Class or Rolls Royce.
I will not even waste time explaining that the Veyron & LP640 are actually connected fully to the tips.
SO MANY IDIOTS, SO LITTLE TIME TO INSULT THEM ALL.

Thing is, im pretty sure that Lexus will soon either Reposition the Box or Lenghten the pipe so it ends just inside the Tips and end this Debate.

Thats marketing at its best.
One company i can say I have never spotted a Fake Tip on is the BMW Group.
I know MB does it on its Sport package {You get AMG Oval Tips on Regular Exhaust Pipe Ends}
I dont think i have seen any on Audi either.
I am reffering to factory or dealer installed Fake Tips.
But in Many Jap vehicles i noticed this trend
Accura//Honda//Lexus//Toyota// I have seen tiny round Pipes exititng into Much Larger Square Tips.
Thing is they do not even trim the end of the round pipe to end where the Square Tips begin, so you have a Square Housing with a round pipe sticking out of it.

Directing exhaust heat/gas is often required to get efficient 'High Speed' aerodynamics correct so the car is stable at speed (If this is not obvious then stop reading here). It appears that in all the pictures above except the IS-F attention was given to this parameter since they have some manner to continuously direct the exhaust/heat.
This demonstrates the lack of attention to engineering and design detail by toyota engineers.
