Pininfarina boss dies in motorcycle crash!
Andrea Pininfarina – the chief executive of the fabled Italian coachbuilder bearing his name – died today in a road accident. He was the grandson of founder Battista Farina and son of Sergio Pininfarina.

Pininfarina, 51, was killed in a road accident in Trofarello near Turin. Police said he was riding a motorbike to the firm's R&D base in Cambiano, Italy, when he was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta.

May he rest in peace!

I still put my money on my Benz over my Lexus. At high speeds its 50/50 whether you'll live or not you douche. So with that said I rather die driving something I love and drive something that's not as boring.

Why be like a fanboy when I can be make my own decisions. You're a Camry driver. Your dad's Camry!.

Hey MichaelTaylor,

If his grieving widow and family was standing in front of you, would you say "well, he'd probably still be alive if he was in a Lexus", you f-ing scumbag? What kind of piece of shit uses the someone's death, nevermind that of a legend in the automotive industry, to generate shallow fanboy propaganda? I'll tell you who: you do, you immature, uncompassionate jerk. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Furthermore, Princess Diana, by all accounts, was not wearing a seat belt. Did you ever see the wreckage of that accident? Would you say she would have been better off if she was in an LS? In comparing the two, and i don't have facts to back this up, I'm going to assume that the S-class is used as a base for armored transportation retrofits exponentially more often than an LS.

MT, take a look at this tragedy.

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/queens/2008/08/05/2008-08-05_dopedup_teen_kills_couple_in_queens_wrec.html

CL500 Mercedes vs Acura TL

The TL was sliced into 2 pieces. Drivers died instantly.

The driver responsible in the Mercedes lived with minor scratches.

You can not compare the strength of a German car to a Japanese. All German cars are built very solid especially those built for the American market.

As for Prince Diana, the car hit a concrete wall traveling 75mph. she died in a hospital. if she wore a seat belt she would have lived.

have you ever seen a ls400 in an accident or an s-class.

I have here is what happened: i am driving home 1 evening. I stop at a stop sign. All of a sudden i feel a bump. I get out and see an ls400, 3/4 nose smashed. My 99 grand cherokee at the time had a slight crack in the bumper and a bent exhaust pipe.

Mercedes, my uncle is driving home one night, some guy almost hits him on the drivers side, he swerves and hits a parked car, the parked car jumps in the air and lands on the car in front of it. He calls me to quickly order parts as the car is coming back. He arrives at my shop and i see to my amazement, i had to change a headlight lense, bumper cover, and i bent the hood and fender back in place.

I use to work on classic cars, namely mercedes, i have owned every high end benz from 1959 models until todya and an 99' ls400, god forbid an accident, i want to be in a benz, especially the 140W body that Princes Diana was in.

i will admit the ls400 drove great, i actually took that over the 2000 s500 which i did not like. i had it for 3 years. the new s-class is leaps and bound over the competition.

MichaelTaylor:

You support Toyota yet you haven't experienced any cars from the lineup. You just drive a Camry so how can you support something you just read about? Most of the people here argue based on what they know in the real world and not links to websites or youtube videos.

I bet you haven't even sat in an LS before or S for that matter. If you did you would respect Mercedes for what they've made. I drive both throughout my days to work and back. I still like the Benz better. Sorry kid, not everyone is a fanboy like you. You have no reason to be a bandwagoner, you follow behind listening and reading people's experience but you have NEVER had your own!.

"Well I am sorry. I didn't want to sound disrespectful but it is a FACT that the Lexus LS is the safest car in the world. Chances are that if you're involved in a heavy accident you will survive unscathed."

where are your facts? you never back them up but just use them like marketing propaganda. please keep your ignorance to yourself.

MichaelTaylor,

There's no reason for you to be so rude, but I guess you forgot the guy sitting in the front passenger seat of the Princess Di Mercedes lived.

Think it thru next time!

Very sad news!
Both because Pininfarina has done so much for automotive design.
But also personally, because I've also left my car at home to commute to work on a scooter (mind you, a 400cc, twin-cam, 460 pound "mega-scooter" that does 90+ MPH) and try to reduce fuel consumption and pollution, global-warming, etc. (I'm averaging 69 MPG)
My Yamaha Majesty looks bigger than a Vespa on the road, but its still dangerous with folks text-messaging while they drive, or other stupid things.

Such a shame.
And to leave a family behind too..........

ok. this is about someone's death. someone who had a family waiting back home and never got to see their husband/father again. yet all u ppl are fighting about is which car is safer at what speed? that's really shameful. if it was ur death, u want ppl discussing what u were driving rather than mourning u? shame on all u ppl doing car comparisons.

may he RIP and his family recover with time.
