Political Two Step: Obama Talks of Hybrids, But Drives A Hemi
Sen. Barack Obama talks a good game. He also drives a good car, but the two are not entirely compatible.

The Democratic presidential contender was in Detroit on Monday, oozing charisma and environmental awareness as he chided local automakers for building too many big vehicles and not enough fuel-efficient hybrids.

So his choice to drive a V8 Hemi-powered Chrysler 300C emits a whiff of hypocrisy along with its exhaust fumes. Obama's choice proves once again that fuel economy is seldom the No. 1 factor when Americans buy cars.

or they drive hybrids and destroy the enviroment with the dirty batteries. The cars are designed to last several years less then the TDI or petrol compitation

He doesn't have to buy a Prius, he could buy a more fuel efficient Chrysler.

A V8 sedan isn't even close to being eco-friendly.

Typical that suburban "nouveau rednecks" would harp on Obama's supposed hypocricy and ignore the brazen, deliberate, and in too many cases, criminal hypocricy of the current administration. Talking about hybrids and driving a 300 is one thing; talking about protecting the environment whlie you are eliminating emissions standards and enforcement and lining the pockets of your energy industry cronies is a whole order of magnitude more hypocritical. Kind of like the guy promoting abstinence at USAID seeing hookers on the side (but in this case the environment is the hooker).

Get a clue folks: over the next couple of years, as the onion gets peeled back on more and more criminal activity, you are about to look a whole lot more stupid and corrupt than Joseph McCarthy and Herbert Hoover supporters -- combined.

Opfreak....We got good men and women dying everyday. Why? The price of gas is still going up. We went over there for one thing, to secure the oil reserves that Daddy Bush missed.

How does your approval rating continue to drop like a rock. It's because you lied to your own people about it. Clinton's approval didn't drop as consistently as Bush's has. I'm not saying politicians are all criminals but it's a close race.

Opfreak, That's plain stupid. Most I know on the left--and since I am on the left, I know quite a few--drive relatively fuel-efficient cars, use fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent, recycle everything they can and do try to improve things. So save your cynicism for those deserving of it, rather than using an anecdote to try to prove a generality.

well in socialist circles it is not what you do it is how you feel. You don't have to change you have to force others to change

I will just say up front that I am not a liberal. I am more of a Goldwater conservative. What other people do on their property in their homes in none of my business and it most certainly isn’t the governments business. That is not even politics: that is simple manners, but for some reason both parties and the people who support them seem to think the concept of democracy gives them the right to dispense with etiquette- despite the fact that the United States has never been a democracy despite what politicians treasonously try to insinuate. Be glad it has never been.

Anyway, I was relatively ambivalent about Obama until recently when we gave a speech and state that 10,000 people died in the recent storms in Kansas. 10 people died not 10,000- three orders of magnitude off. That is a very large mistake. I don’t know if he has trying to sensationalize it or simply does not read the news, but either case I find unacceptable.

As far as his car: he's a politician what do you expect. My experience with politicans is that they,in particular career politicians, are smarmy slimy little bastards with absolutely no manners. I hate sychophants.

This proud liberal normally gets over 30 mpg and could do better too. We all could improve. What I don't understand is the halo so many Americans have put over Obama's head. If he get the nomination, of course I'll vote for him. He isn't any worse than anyone else running, but he certainly isn't all that great.

That doesn't mean we can get on the 'all politicians are hypocrites' bandwagon. The minute you start expecting as little of your politicians as you expect of yourself or your co-workers & neighbors is the minute you'll start understanding democracy. They're only people too.

the western world is not destroying the enviroment they are the ones cleaning it up. Have you been to China? I have and there are 2 billion people that don't give a crap about your CAFE standards or what you put in the sink. The modern enviromental movement is leaded by western hatting commies and the stupid masses are the rest of us for buying this crap.

If there is global warming they blame it on the sun or volcanos. There was an ice age 1000's of years before man and there was warming before and after that.

If you car about the enviroment then puck up that trash, don't dump in the lake, don't trow out the pepsi can, and fart every other day.

how do they lower gas prices? "I command you to drop your prices" "I order you to not make any money"

Lower prices will come with greater supply and lower demand. Encourage refinaries and exploration, talk about alternitives like TDI, Bio-desiel, and reduce taxes on developers.

The easyest way to drop gas prices is to have a week economy. Give me $4.00 before a week economy.

He's a Democrat, their strategy is tell ppl what they want to hear and worry about using the media to blame the Republicans later. If someone complains, say it's some redneck Texan that's the problem, or some BS race thing.

He's gonna need more than "I wanna be the first black President" as a platform. I have yet to hear anything that would make anyone want to vote for him.

He's such a hypocrite, he might as well drive a diesel while telling how we need to handover Iraq to China and the terrorists.

Knowing Bubba Clinton, he probably would've apologized to Al Qaeda for the US building the WTC too high.

To the know-nothing European cheap-ars diesel lovers, the TDI Jetta consumed 2x more oil than the Prius according to the EPA. Want me to prove it?

I'll do it anyway. Must've revised it already, it used to be 5.9 barrels. Oh well, still kills the diesel in mileage.

Prius 6.2 barrels
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm
Jetta TDI 10.3 barrels
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm

Obama could be worse though, he could drive a German car and complain about how we shouldn't buy Japanese inorder to support foreign made American/German cars.
