1. Performance (if you're going to drive it, it should be fun).
2. Quality (should you expect anything less?).
3. Use (even toothpaste serves different purposes; so do cars).
4. Style/Image (in the real world, they're closely related).
5. Price (how can this not matter to regular people?).
And Bonus Category: The lineage of the manufacturer. Does this company really deserve your hard earned money and your business for the next few years?

My thought process when buying a car...

1) Is it a BMW.... if YES proceed to 2, if NO go elsewhere and find a BMW for sale

2) Is it faster than my previous car.... if YES proceed to 3, if NO ask to see something with a bigger engine

3) Can I afford it.... if YES buy it, if NO take it for a test drive, but then politely decline to purchase it, then go back to stage 1

1. Contact local BMW dealer and let them know I am on the way.

My thought process when buying a car:

1. Does it have a better interior than a BMW? (If YES, buy it)

Therefore you would end up buying an Audi.

A lot of you must be high, if you buy a used vehicle and dont seriously look at reliability. It clearly isnt on most of your lists for new cars, as Autospies readers seem to heavily lean towards German cars. But on a used car, it's a must.

s4cabriofox, true perhaps that many don't buy used, but a large portion probably drive their mom's car too. many have not been in market for ANY car let alone a used car.

i buy used.
i don't want to waste my money.
if i had bought a new 745 in 2003 i would have lost around 80000 dollars by now. (cost new, say 120000 dollars here?)
buy used, its great value. 80000 dollars is enough for a used 996 911 here.
2 cars for the price of 1.
and if you get a current model, you still look cool!

buying used is the way to go unless your LOADED. let some other jerk swallow the initial depreciation, and then don't buy from a dealership, saving you from ever experiencing the dealer mark-up.

on the other hand, i can't afford the cars i would like to buy new, so of coarse i talk badly of it.

lexus might not have as high resale values with the increase in prices. cheaper cars traditionally have higher resale values since there is less room to depreciate. now they cost as much as the germans. bmw and mercedes have high resale because of name, yes. but they have that name because their solid cars.

1. BMW or Mercedes
2. Style
3. Comfort
4. Performance
5. Quality/Reliability
6. Resale value
7. Some practicality
