Pontiac G8 to live on as Chevy Caprice...says Maximum Bob

This is becoming more believable having heard that GM plans to modify their Episilon-II platform to carry both the next-gen Malibu and Impala. But I don't see why Chevy needs to have so many sedans will close dimensions.

Malibu - Impala - Caprice: Unless the Caprice will have a lengthy wheelbase (115-120 inches), the Impala will make the lineup a bit cumbersome. It would be nice to know that the next-gen Impala will look something like the SS concept (4-door coupe) from a few years ago and that could go a long way to explain its planned existence.

I'm happy they're keeping the G8 around but seriously, they should give the Impala name to the G8 and rename the current Impala the Caprice.

The platform is a good one. Just keep the fit and finish good, create an attractive style and don't cheese out on the interior. The american car companies need to get the confidence of single mom and women in general. They just want a good looking reliable car and I don't blame them. Don't get me wrong there are buyers of all demographics but in my opinion if you can satisfy the ladies, that news goes a long way. The american car companies have a lot of work to do and have one chance to get it right. Ford currently I believe has the lead.

From my experience, more women know what the g8 is compared to men. I get compliments from women all the time when I am near my G8 GT. When it broke down this past weekend, the tow truck driver was unaware of the car. He doubted me when I mentioned it is RWD. Had to take a look for himself when it was on the flatbed. He was pleasantly surprised with the car.

As far as the future of the vehicle in the US, personally I think GMC should have taken over the G8. That would have been interesting.

Not sure what happened. The car began to misfire, almost as if it was stuck in DOD mode. When I would give the car throttle, it would operate correctly. Car was still operable, I just didn't want to chance it. Car has 512 miles on it; owned it for 6 days. I'll bet $100 it is the ECM that is bad. I like the car, just hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

This Caprice model (based on Holden) has been in the middle east for years now. So what's new and exciting about this?? Just another GM insulting announcements. GM should just close its doors and give up the car business, PERIOD.

That's not a Photoshop picture. The Pontiac G8/Holden Statesman is sold in other markets (primarily the Middle East) as the Chevrolet Caprice. And that's the car you see there. Not because it isn't sold in the US doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I mean, that's why the first Lancer Evolution sold in the US was the VIII...there were 7 other versions before it that sold everywhere else.
