Pontiac GXP confirmed with 415HP
General Motors’ performance flagship for the Pontiac G8 range, the all-new 2009 GXP saloon, will arrive in showrooms in the first half of next year with a 415hp (309kW) version of the Corvette’s LS3 V8 engine nestled under its bonnet.

Peak torque, meanwhile, is rated at 415lb-ft (563Nm) and according to official SAE J1349 dyno charts there’s more than 300lb-ft (406Nm) of twist from as early as 2,000rpm all the way up to redline.

Or you could want the performance version. The V6 is alright but if you want to 'row you own' w/ 415 hp on tap and enjoy it then this is what you get. Not everyone just wants a grocery getter.

I dont know about the best in the world....but seriously dude or chic how can you say they are the best in the world prior to 2006 GM has produced nothing but shi@#y cars except the vette and their fullsize trucks have been on point. Other than that they just started making cars in the U.S with european standards. best in the world is an overstatement they may be the best in the domestic market BUT DAMN SURE NOT IN THE WORLD....whatever you smoking put it out and think about what you said

I like GM but you do nothing to prove your point, you cant just spew out irrlevant crap and expect anyone to take you seriuosly. Btw captain, this isnt really american, just an american engine, like i said in my previous comment "Its like saying the Noble m12 is an american car becuase it uses the ford Duratech engine."

Keep that momentum going GM. A great looking car is now equipped with an even better drivetrain. For those looking for a BMW M5 but can't come close to affording it, here's your car.

I'd probably go for the E39 M5 or C5 RS6. You could probably get these used for about the same price as the G8.

Recommending a used perforamnce car like an m3 or an m5 is usually pretty bad advice. Usually buyers of such cars push them to the limits, The engine is highly stressed, the car rattles at times due to a highly damped suspension. Buying a used m5 is not the same thing as a new M5. E55 on the other hand are a better choice, thier respective buyers usually dont track the cars and dont drive them at the limit daily.

i think anyone that buys a midsize sedan with a v8 producing over 400hp is going to be running these cars....and not everyone would waste the trade in, and everythign else on an M5 just to track it, that makes no sense, they are catering to the same buyer.....thoug I think the G8 would be a good alternative a used one of these cars, or even someone that just wants a good performance sedan I finally had a chance to drive the G8 V8 and i have to admit its a good car, the ride and handlign compromise is great, at normal cruising you can hardly even tell you have such a large engine or that much power, its like night and day quiet, comfortable, yet fast and with an awesome sound good car

and on a side note its the reason i have so much faith in the upcoming Camaro over the mustang, being based on the G8 Gm would have to try very hard to screw it up
