Porsche Cayman S Edition 1 - Limited Edition
Engine : 3.4L 6 cylinder
Transmission : 6-speed, manual
Max speed : 171 mph
0-60 mph : 5.4 seconds
Horsepower : 295 hp @ 6250 rpm

The Porsche Cayman S 'Porsche Design Edition 1' is a limited edition all-black version of the Cayman S. Only 777 will be built.

Porsche and their internal Porsche Design Studio are launching a limited run of Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 coupes in a stealth black exterior which pay tribute to both Porsche Design and their original Chronograph 1 timepiece.

For a slightly more sinister look, the Cayman S Edition 1 receives 10mm lowered suspension, 5 mm wheel spacers with 19-inch wheels from the 911 Turbo. And as a last touch of exclusivity, don't forget the Porsche Design Edition 1 decals on the hood and doors as well as name plate on the glove box identifying the limited edition production number.

They never said they dont fit right, simply that this car is in large part about looks and pushing the wheels out makes for a better look. I dont see the problem with properly used spacers. Presumably, owners can take them off...

So the Wheels Fit Flush with the Wheel Arches, Sometimes so they do not Rub Against the inside of the Wheel Wells.

Never Mind

This Porsche Gayman will hardly be driven to its Max Potential so the Spacers will not be much of a problem.

I can Guarantee that in the UK it will be bought by a lot of Estate Agents and Hairdressers (More Women than Men) and neither group will drive it hard.

What? You sound more envious than not... no need to bring up Lexus here.

bagwell: the IS350, though very well done, simply does not handle as well as a Cayman. So there you go -- you enjoy yours, I'll enjoy mine.

All: Yes, just like many aftermarket bits, wheel spacers can ruin a vehicle. But for those who know what they are doing, wheel spacers are always an option to allow one to run different wheels for different conditions. You'd be surprised the number of unsponsored racers who use them -- different tracks require different tires and different suspension/alignment/offest. Unless you're rolling in the dough, it's not always practical to buy 3+ sets of rims that are perfectly set up as one wants. Used rims and wheel spacers is far less expensive and just as effective for tuning your track set-up.

But hey, Ricemaster and friends, if you're going to whine about the fact that Porsche decided against commissioning a special run of limited-production wheels for this car, tell us the offset they should have chosen. Or just tell us the wheel offset you're running on your car. I run stock offset rear and change front offest from 45mm to 35mm on the track. I may even experiment with wider tires in the rear next season, but we'll see. Have you upgraded from your stock rims -- and if so, what's the mass of each of your wheels? Have you properly tuned your car with different tires/offset/suspension alignment for the type of driving you do? Have you ever run spacers?

Enough whining from people who have nothing better to do that criticize, criticise, criticize... Please spend more time learning and less time bitching.

IN regards to Lexus I350 vs Cayman: I bought my wife the I350...it is NOT as fast, certainly doesnt handle near as well, is an ergonomic nightmare, and basically a car that should not even be spoken of in the same breath as ANY Porsche.

I bought myself the Design Edition Cayman (237/777). Correct, it is a cosmetic upgrade only. One commentor said he hated the TUrbo Wheels, (well, each to their own), but I happen to think they are fantastic, and they are the most expensive OEM optional wheels one could get from Porsche.

I think what many people overlook in the Design Edition versus the standard S, is that the packaged Design Edition actually sells for $6,000 LESS then a standard model that would be configured as the PDE-1 is. Not only is it actually less (when equipped identically), you also get the gift set. These "trinkets" are sold in Porsche Design retail stores for $7,000.....in other words, NO, it is not some watch from the back of Automobile magazine, it is a $3,000 watch.

My particular Design Edition cost $92,000. It has every option and upgrade available, including all black interior painted parts, alcantara headliner, wheel, shifter, brake handle, Ceramic Brakes, Chrono Pkg, and the list goes on and on. If you were to configure a standard Cayman S similarily, it would run you $98,418. Bottom line, the design edition gives some uniqueness, offers value, and gives the buyer a $7,000 gift package in the process. Not a bad deal in my opinion. Now, if you dont like the Cayman, thats fine too...go buy a Subaru WRX or whatever turns you on. I could pretty much afford to buy any car (so long as it did not exceed $250k), and i WANTED a Cayman....i choose the Cayman over the Turbo or other models...it simply handles better and in my opinion, looks better too.
